FReeper Sleuths! Gary Condit and the Mystery of the Chandra Levy Pinky Ring! "Police believe this missing tiny pinkie ring could be the key to solving the Chandra Levy murder case. A gift from her mother, Susan in 1998, it was one of the 24-year-old Bureau of Prisons intern's most cherished possessions and her family has said she wore it constantly. The 14-carat gold ring was bought for $416 and has two diamond chips and the initials "CL" inscribed. But it was not among the personal items found during the extensive police search of the wooded hillside in Rock Creek Park where Levy's remains were discovered last week, Washington police spokesman Joseph Gentile said yesterday. " After doing an exhaustive search of my own image archive, I could only find one image where Chandra is shown wearing a ring (below left). This ring happens to be on her ring finger and NOT on her pinky as has been reported in the press. Certainly, it may be a different ring, but it might just be the one described above and pictured below. So what gives FReepers? Can any of you find an image of Condit where he is wearing a ring on ANY of his fingers? There is your mission! (BTW, yes, I spell Pinky with a "y") |
I have never thought her murder was planned, but rather was the result of a temper gone berserk. I do think Condit lied to her and set up a meeting for the afternoon of the 30th, in which he thought he could promise her anything, and get her out of DC back to CA, and she would wait for him to contact her. He may even have promised her a romantic trip as a reward for being a good girl. But Chandra wasn't playing anymore, too much had happened to her in one week and she was insisting on a committment from him and a time line. No doubt Carolyn's presence in his condo make Chandra jealous, and jealous women do not act with prudence.
I suspect he picked her up in his little red car, drove her to a secluded place (klingle Mansion?) had sex, a fight and choked her to death. He then drove around looking for a place to leave her. He didn't have a lot of time and driving around with a body in the front or back seat wasn''t smart. At the top of the hill he made his decision.
In order to get her out of the car, toss her down the hill he tied her arms together with the only thing available to him,(she was probably wearing the other articls of clothing found) making it easier to move her. He would have been panicked, but he was also lucky, no one saw him. He tossed her walkman and anything else she had with her down the hill after her, taking anything he thought would help identify her, ring, keys. He then went about his life, rid of her. The trip to Luray VA could have been to dispose of these items.Hiding them would have not been a problem, as had time on his side.
She was not near any path, and people did not regularly go where he dumped her. Time was, he figured on his side. I do not think he had help, as that would put him in the untenable situation of being controlled by someone else. He did however get Mike to lie for him more than once and may have paid him to do so. After all, Mike adored him.(?) Mike also helped him dump the watch box, but Joline had been Mike's girlfriend and he may have been protecting her involvement, not protecting Condit..
I do not think anyone has any sure knowledge about this, nor was he seen by anyone that afternoon, who until now would have known what they saw. I may be totally wong about this, but he is the only suspect with any reason to get rid of her and self absorbed enough to do this unthinkable thing. Just my thoughts.
Registered, you are correct. In case you missed my flag to you on the other thread I will post here also.
Last night I was watching John Walsh's, Most Wanted, he was describing the ring while showing the video of Chandra taken in April 2001. (her Birthday?) The one where she is wearing a lavender top. As he was describing the ring I was looking at her pinky fingers and saw nothing. All of a sudden they zoomed in on the ring and it was on her right hand ring finger.
Most of us here on this thread believed the media and said there was no way Chandra's pinky ring could fit Condit's pinky finger. But Chandra's right hand, ring finger, ring, could fit.
I am beginning to think the media is psyching Condit out. Go to the Modesto Bee for yesterday. They are talking about Chandra's pinky ring, but the odd thing is of all the pictures of Condit they put up they chose the one of Condit wearing a pinky ring. (although you can't see it very well in the picture they used.)
Take a look at this part of a timeline:
July 6 2001: Condit finally admits affair to police.
July 10 2001: Condit and Mike Dayton dump the watchbox.
July 11 2001: Condit's apartment is searched by police.
July 16 2001: Police BEGIN their search of Rock Creek Park and Klingle Mansion.
August 1 2001: The search of Rock Creek Park is suspended for a few days when two false tips come in almost simultaneously(the keymaker and from a military base).
August 2 2001:Condit goes back to California and pretty much hides for the next month.
I always thought that the trip to dump the watch was a two-fold trip. Supposing Gary had advance knowledge of the Rock Creek Park search, did Condit and Mike throw out the watchbox AND and go to the park to make sure she was still well covered. (The old return to the scene of the crime thing).
Plug in "Where in the world is Chandra Levy?" for the timeline. It's not perfect but flows well with a lot of information and a very good map. (I disagree with Gary being at his office from 1-5 on May 1st.)

Sunday, 4-29-01 .. Chandra was "seen" on a survelliance video at a SevenEleven in Arlington, Va.
Sunday, 4-29-01 .. According to the timeline given by Condit, he had brunch with the Mrs., then shopping in the neighborhood with the wife; at noon they go to his office; from the office by subway to an Italian grocery, then home to cook dinner.
It is known that Condit has a car, used by his staff. If Chandra were in Arlington on 4-29 .. whose car?
If Condit and wife go to his office, by what means? The suggestion is that throughout the day, Condit is car-less ... possibly "staff" is with Chandra and setting things in motion?
The rest of Condit's timeline prominently features his being picked up at specific times by staff .. 4-29-01 seems to be the exception.

Mikey D lives near Arlington doesn't he? Maybe the butler (Mike) did it!!!! Go through your ol' mystery book and find out why!
She would get in a car with him. He may have had a crush (or more) on Chandra?!?!?!!?
Public Transportation is a great way to get around in DC and Chandra doesn't have a car.
We're looking for something odd about her going into the 7-11. It's probably nothing more than her way of killing time and there was no inference that she had never been in there before.
Chandra was just passing the day, Gary was with his wife going about Town and Mike the dork was relaxing.

I have never seen the movie, but I think that Chandra was a real movie buff, and given her history/life goals/journalistic-computer/employment-access/skills/curiosity/ambition/etc.,...I think (feel) she would certainly have been preoccupied (an obession) with the movie video rental, "The Siege" (1998).
If so, I 'believe' a close analysis of this film will surely give an 'in-depth' working psychopathology of her ongoing relationships/folly.
MIG (may I guess)??
Comments?
Film/book reviews?
Any 'ring' of 'truth' here?
