Prayer Request-My Sister's Terminal Lung Disease
Self | 5/13/02 | griffin

Posted on 05/13/2002 10:13:38 AM PDT by griffin

My sister was diagnosed with a rare lung disease on Friday, Interstatial Lung Disease. The prognosis is terminal. She is only 29 and in otherwise good health.

Appearantly, an infection, the nature of which is unknown, is producing a constant state of pneumonia. Since the doctors don't know the nature of the infection, they can not stop it. It is causing scar tissue to form all throughout the lungs. Scar tissue isn't very elastic and will not permit oxygen to travel from the lungs to the blood.

End result is that the doctor said in 1 to 2 years she will suffocate.

Requesting prayers for her and any medical info that could be of help/leads in stopping this infection before it ruins the remaining lung tissue.

This sounds pretty rough, but Sarah will be OK no matter what happens. God is with her, with you, and with the rest of your family.

I'll keep praying for her, and for you.

To: griffin, all
I think I have thanked each and every one of you for your prayers. If I have missed you I sincerely apologize. Please accept my thanks and gratitude now. I hope to keep this thread alive and prayers flowing through what are now Sarah's darkest hours. Thank you all for everyone's efforts....can't say it enough.

Lord, You see that Your child Sarah is suffering physically and mentally. Won't You help her now, Lord? Please use Your mighty Hand to rip her illness from her. Renew her body and mind. Give strength to our family members and her husband. I ask that you heal my sister, Lord....or take her mercifully home...whatever Your will Lord. Only, please ease her suffering. In Christ's name I pray. Thank you Lord. Amen.

I know...:) Thanks....I guess I am just holding onto things of this world a little too much. As a big brother, I feel so helpless.....all I can do is beg the Almightly for mercy and strain to touch His robe in faith. Ugh.

Don't go there -- it's natural to feel the way you do, and it's not ungodly to feel grief.

The shortest sentence in the Bible is proof: Jesus wept. (John 11:35)

He understands, griffin. He's with you.

It will be OK. Hard, but OK. And the real beauty is, it's only temporary!

God's grace and peace to you, Sarah, and the rest of your family.

Griffin: You, Sarah and your family are in my prayers.

DON'T GIVE UP! I find it appalling that a doctor would pronounce a patient's affliction terminal - and give a one to two year time frame for death to visit. That is an outrage to me. So much can happen in a month, much less 12 to 24.

Our bodies are marvels of chemistry and adaptation. Sarah's endocrine and circulatory systems are working, 24X7, to construct the systems and chemical antibodies that will attack and obliterate this vile invader. She needs to do EVERYTHING she can to support this natural process. Unfailing, focused optimism and resolve are irreplaceably important - Sarah's natural systems need to be bolstered and fed. Infections, either viral or bacterial ... have natural enemies. God has given Sarah the tools to fight this attack; her body is actively doing so now - and any negative or fatalistic approach only serves to hinder that process. Fear sabotauges the healing process. Telling someone they will suffocate to death in 12 to 24 months is inhuman, IMO.

Don't be afraid to look for holistic or herbal approaches. Talk to Asian herbal healers. Look for meditative approaches that open the body to it's exceptional self-healing magic. The traditional doctor has thrown up his hands. "We don't know nuthin'" .... that's not an acceptable prognosis.

Keep the faith in God, faith in our medical research community where life-saving miracles are invented every day, and faith in Sarah's will to live out a very blessed life. Lance Armstrong was "terminally" ill with cancer that had spread from his testes to his lungs, abdomen and brain. He didn't accept the fate given to him by fellow mortals, even guys with M.D. after their names and driving BMWs. Armstrong recovered through his will and approach, and then won THREE straight Tour de France bicycling competitions, perhaps the most difficult physical competition on Earth. That was faith, meditation and indomitable will. Chemo and radiation treatments are more destructive than the original disease, IMO, but that's another topic.

Don't give in to the HMO-ized medical production line. Sarah has youth, faith, a wonderful support group and a will to live working for her. She needs to get physically fit, like never before. She needs to stay active and engaged and positive, even when her breath seems short. She needs her immune system working at full capacity. That's powerful. Miracles DO happen!

Dear griffin, my humble heartfelt prayers for grace and healing and light for your dear sister and her husband, your mother, your family, you. I'm also praying that Sarah does not mistake a medical diagnosis for a death sentence. Perhaps it would be better if she were to put her trust in the Lord Who Is Life. Who just may have further plans for her here.

My hopeful prayers, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Peace and love, bb.

Mike ... thank you for tht prayer for my brother.

I know how good the team can be in Boise. They were so good to my Dad a couple of years back when he had the anurism while visiting here. They were good to my wife when she had more of her thyroid taken out a couple of years before that.

pray we all find Christ's love and salvation someday! Now, THAT would be grand!

The day will come when we shall all see or be with Him as He comes in the clouds my friend. We can but do our best and rely on Him until then and try to live as He would live ... in all we do.

God bless.
