Dear Subscriber,
Here is today's ACTION ITEM:
ISSUE: According to the American Land Rights Association (landrights.org), The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee met IN SECRET on April 25 and voted to approve S. 975, the "Community Character Act".
Because of growing public opposition to S. 975, the committee leadership decided to HIDE from the public and meet in a closed session.
This is the SAME committee that hid from the public last December and approved S. 990, the "Son of CARA" land acquisition bill. When the public doesn't like what they are doing, the EPW Committee shuts out the public and votes in secret.
However, this time around, information has leaked out about how it happened:
The general public and lobbyists start lining up outside the door of Room 406 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building. This is where the EPW Committee gave public notice several days before that the "markup" -- the final debate and committee vote -- on S. 975 would be held, at 9:30am that morning.
A committee staff person announced to the people waiting in line that the committee "markup," due to start at 9:30, had been moved. He was asked WHERE and said, "I don't have room number." He was asked WHEN and said, "I don't know, sometime after 10 o'clock." He was asked WHY and said,
He finally admitted that the meeting was being moved to a small office in a part of the Capitol Building that was CLOSED to the general public. But he still insisted that it was a public meeting, it was just being held in a room that was closed to the public.
So the EPW Committee, at about 10:30am, met IN SECRET and voted to approve S. 975, the Community Character Act. The vote was twelve in favor to seven against; two RINOs (Republicans In Name Only), Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Lincoln Chafee (R-RI), joined turncoat Jim Jeffords (I-VT) and 9 Democrats to pass it out of committee.
ACTION ITEM: S. 975 is now ready to go to the Senate floor, to be voted on by the entire Senate. The Bush administration has gone on record as opposing S. 975 and House companion bill H.R. 1433, but all opponents of Big Government need to contact their Senators and Representatives and let them know that their constituents -- that's US -- oppose this attempt to have the Federal government take over local zoning. oh my, in secret...but where are the repubs, defenders of individual rights (at election time). figure it out, gang, both parties are the same in regards to agreeing the state has the authority to abrogate personal rights.
tired of it? maybe you should vote for someone else....nah, just keep your head in the sand.

Despite the bad publicity third parties receive, I'm with you. Vote anything but dem and rep. Unless your conscience says otherwise.

article did not mention WHAT the fedgov wants the land FOR. seize it, for the people, then close it, to the people. then patrol it. patrol empty land with vigor? leave the borders open? think. it dont add up. try to check out these lands...see what happens. something is there. and dont give me any jive about natl. sec. they say nothing is there. cant have it both ways.
