Apparently the liberals and the people of East Timor were not exactly thrilled with Clinton's response at the time. Bush is a very interesting person, I wouldn't play chess with him. Clinton has to go and the questions of what Clinton did and did not do at time will be asked. Bush took a potential negative against his administration and threw it back at Clinton AND derailed Clinton's bid to get involved in areas that matter. My guess is Clinton may be a little less likely to use his political clout against Bush again.
If this is what's underneath it all then fine. But only time will tell. I sure hope you're right.

I could care less too, but I just don't think Clinton has any place whatsoever in the Bush administation. Maybe Bush wants to send Clinton away so he'll keep his big mouth shut regarding the Mideast. Regardless, I do not agree with Bush on this AT ALL.This is just a simple one time appointment of very little political value to all involved. It is an appeasement of sorts and it will rid GW of this slime ball when the heavy hitting stuff comes around. He will have already used up his "Joker Card" and can send people of greater importance to other areas when the time comes.

The "officials" describe this as a peace overture to clintbilly. I'll wait to hear what Condi and the President have to say.
I suspect there will be a twinkle in their eyes as it is announced. This reminds me of when mclame DIDN'T get invited to the signing of CFR.

Bush should be prosecuting him not sending him on a mission
I agree with you
Also I think it's a stupid move
His goal is to sabotage Bush's administration
since he thinks that is way to get Dem elected prez in 2004 so he can rule behind his puppet
Before this he was former prez, won't this give him authority to speak to foreign leaders as rep for prez

I may have supported his removal from office, but facts are facts.
He was impeached, but he was not removed from office, all in accordance with the Constitution.
The impeachment did not result in his removal, so he was the President of the United States for 8 years.
As much as I may wish that he was removed, he was not, and so his position as ex President and all the benefits that go along with it are still intact.
If you want to blame somebody, blame Congress for not removing him, not Bush for dealing with him as he would any ex President, after all Clinton who was elected by the American people for two terms.

If Clinton actually does this, it implies acceptance of GWB's policies, not the other way around.

I dunno about you, but I'd rather have Bill Clinton talking to a bunch of nobodies in East Timor--all of whom hate his guts--than talking to an ever-fawning press here in the USA. Wrong -- Ronald Reagan had precisely the correct move when Jimmy Carter would phone up, wanting to go here, there and everywhere -- Reagan did not take the call.
Bush is a fool to even consider an IMPEACHED former president as some kind of official envoy, let alone sanction a visit.
To: Truth Addict
I agree... but one can hope. Hopefully, his ego will refuse to take any more hits. And this is a huge slap in the face. Clinton thinks he can still win the Nobel Peace Prize... he isn't going to be able to do it in East Timor.

Maybe the Rhodes scholar needs to complete a paper on the region to complete her school work...... Not something I like to see President Bush do but then it's his decision right or wrong....

Karen, you left the White House too soon, then on the other hand maybe Condoleezza Rice knows something we don't. Whatever...this is an affront to one heck of a lot of people. You can write Ms. Rice % of the White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
NW Washington, DC 20500.
Write her and the President, don't just vent and complain, do something about it! Meanwhile Freepers, try to remember this is an election year, strange politics always emerge during that time. Look at what the left is laying on the GOP, are you doing anything about that? Everybody knows that Bill Clinton is a crook, why not send him to the people that funded his elections, maybe they will draw and quarter him.................

Baloney! Enough buck-passing! When is anyone in government going to have the guts to do the right thing?? I'm tired of lame excuses for all of them!
You ARE right, though, the brunt of the blame lies at the feet of WE, the People. First, we have to stop making excuses for cowardice and conivance.
To: TonyInOhio
This does not suprise me. There is no differrence between Republican and Democrat anymore except in degree of liberalness.

Refreshing to see your sentiments. Man, I'm tired of creative, lame excuses for these bastards! Bush has destroyed conservatism in America by making the majority of American conservatives habitual compromisers of principle and stretchers of the facts.
To: Thorn11cav
Wow! Unsourced administration officials and Clinton aides sure seem to have a lot of influence with you. I imagine you are considering this the final straw, but you may want to withhold your decision until this story is verified.

Bush has done this? LOL!!!
To: dawn53
And anyway, he IS an IMPEACHED president. That is a fact Bush could use to make it easier for his weak little political self to do the right thing here.
To: carton253
Your attempted excuses for cowardice are pathetic in the extreme. I'm embarassed for you.
To: carton253
You're right, Bush has not SINGLE-HANDEDLY done this, but it is plainly the current condition of our nation. Good luck to your children! God have mercy on them.
