Jeez, why not eat a healthy diet and exercise?

That is precisely what the people on the diet are trying to do. The controversy is over the definition of "healthy diet".

I'm a power lifter & protein is one of my main supplements so it was great from that standpoint, but you get your energy from Carbs & as I began to thin down by Bench Press peaked at 425 lbs & I was stuck there for several weeks. As soon as I began to take the Creatine & my bi-weekly weekend splurge of Carbs my bench began to get better again.

Another thing that I disliked about the Atkins diet was stomach cramps & constipation, man that was terrible & painful. If your going to stay on a diet like this, make sure you buy some Metamucil your going to need it.

I am an overweight person who tried it and I never felt so crappy in my life as when I was on that diet and to boot, it was a serious crimp on my lifestyle.

I keep telling you to take up smoking Ken, it works wonders.

I think that the wrestlers were at fault, yes Creatine could have had a factor in it but if your going to take a supplement you better do some research on the product before you take it. Water is essential in any diet & is most important when on Creatine.

check out mentzer, seriously, it is a logically airtight argument, the final word in training. if you are not increasing in weights or reps each workout,

Two issues. The first. It is not possible to increase reps, and/or weight, every workout, or you would be benching a thousand punds for high digit sets....The normal Powerlifting protocal, produces by far, the greatest stregnth gains, and muscle hardness...3-5 reps...few sets...

Most of stregnth is learning to generate muscle tension, Only bodybuilders need to make it grow beyond the bounds that making it super strong, will produce.....I.E. At 5'8" 200 lbs 15% BF, My arms are still over 16 inches, and get over 17, when buffed out...And I have yet to break 400lbs in the deadlift.

Occaisionally, everyone needs a rest...That's Periodization. that is what effects optimal stregnth/growth or whatever you may be seeking....

Two. Yes, once upon a time Mentzer was really great. But that was not with out the aid of pharmacology either...something to consider.....I own a copy of Heavy Duty, and there is some useful information in it. But likewise, Power, The Poliquin Principles, Ian Kings book...(I forget the title offhand) as well as Some of the Stuff Pavel is spouting...(Especially the Kettlebell thing...) most of his other stuff seems to be a re-hash of info that can be found in other places...But that's OK too.

I have not heard of that specific diet. But from what you are describing, that is what I did. My carb intake was "highest" right before and after a workout. Also, my cheat meals were continued until 4 weeks before the contest.

Yeah, thats basically it. This guy Lyle really got into the low-carb diets, and became, seriously, one of the worlds leading experts, while he himself was something of a flake! He is all over the internet. Was personal friends of Dan Duchaine. Funny though, after all the years of research, and driving himself half mad, he has concluced that in the end, what matters is the same old basic energy equation that has driven us since day one.. calories in (and absorbed) - calories expended. Doesn't much matter what you eat. The various diets are just different methods to the same ends.

The key for me was training my body to enjoy normal food again. I gained all my weight within a short time and I did it by eating junk food. Now all I eat are cooked fresh vegies, fresh fruit, lean meats and lots of water. Whereas I would have never eaten a bunch of vegies for dinner a few years ago, now I actually enjoy eating them. In fact, I'd much rather have a bowl of fresh vegie soup than a plate of spagetti. That's still hard for me to believe. LOL

Fad diet that restricts you to one food group?

If you had read Dr. Atkins books, you would know that your statement is completely erroneous. You only know about the induction stage of his diet plan. If you had read his book closely you would see that the diet teaches people to restrict carbohydrates in their diets, not completely eliminate them. Contrary to your comments, I eat a lot of foods besides bacon and cheeseburgers and have lost weight while feeling great.

"i wouldnt expect him to blame his multi million dollar diet, as the lawsuits would be uncountable. now, how bout a nice three dollar wax bar?"

Hmmm, do you have a private link to the guy's medical history? Are you a cardiologist? Can you say for sure myocarditis that persists over 2 years would NOT cause a cardiac emergency?

If this "heart attack" is related solely to Atkins' diet, and he's eaten this way for well over 30 years, how come he didn't have a heart attack years ago???

Yes, My wife an dI are getting very close to that model. Rush Limbaugh gave me great advice, stop making food the center o fyour life. It is true, I see food as nutrition and in the process I enjoy health food now.

If Dr. A has had this infection for such a long period of time, you guys cannot blame his heart emergency on his eating habits, for goodness' sake.

Let the facts get in the way of pushing our own views on a subject?
Has that EVER happened here? :- )

My brother had his bad cholesterol and triglycerides go down. He also had his borderline high Liver Enzymes go down. His doctor said to keep doing what he is doing. You are correct, though, that it's difficult to stay on. I tried it myself and lost about 20 pounds. I never felt better -I had abundant energy. The difficult thing is it is a lifestyle change -and I don't want to change my eating habbits. It's not the fault of the 'atkins' diet. It's my fault.

My personal experience was EXACTLY the same as your brother's and yours.

There's a web sight called Testosterone.com you may want to check out if your into Weight lifting. Warning though it does deal with Supplements & Steroid use & at times they can be a little racy on some of the articles, but they have some great information on diets & workouts. Anyway if your interested check it out.

I have noticed that alot of hollywood "tough guys" tend to be conservative. I know that Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) tends to lean that way as well. He works out at my gym sometimes when he is at home (which isn't that often considering how much he travels).
