Once the ME settles down, they will fall right back into bed with their socialist friends, the democrats.

Well, if I were an "on-the-fence" Jewish voter reading some of the comments on this thread, I wouldn't be in much of a hurry to make the switch. :-) But for the good of the country, I do hope they make the switch. Maybe then [not holding breath] the Democratic leadership will wake up and change their destructive habits.

Whenever there's posts about Jewish voters, there's all kinds of criticism. It ticks me off.

The Zogby poll said that 59% of Jews under the age of 30 voted for Bush.

While I don't know the exact percentage, most of the Orthodox Jews I know vote Republican (and this is mostly Gen-Xers, but also people in their 40's.)

In the late NY Senate election, most Chasidic groups voted for Lazio (the Squarers a notable exception.)

Some people want to complain about Jewish voters no matter what. You complain that they vote Democrat when the Dems sell Israel down the river. Then you complain that they vote Republican, because the Republicans are pro-Israel. Make up your mind.

I know we aren't supposed to generalize about people, but most Jews are smart. I hope they are really beginning to wake up and smell the coffee. Old habits die hard.

I have family members that are jews, voting conservative and or republican to them is worse than death. However, if it looked like Israel might be engulfed by the Arabs, they would be first in line to demand Bush rush troops to the ME.

There are some things they will not do, one is they will not leave their socialist friends.

I think that one reason that Liberals are so against Israel's self-defense and pro-capitulation (same with the UN and most of Europe) is that they hate the idea of someone forcing a war on them. The worst thing in the world is to be forced to defend yourself, so the liberals hate those that recognize the necessity. [See also Second Amendment]

Swallowing vapid slogans like "War doesn't solve anything" (go tell that to the Spartans -- oh, right, they're gone) makes them HATE the person who drag them in.

I would not call them Isolationist, rather Absolute Pacifist. Which makes peacekeeping for them the holiest of uses for the military. And look how conflict-avoiding the Rules of Engagement were in Bosnia or even Somalia. Jimmy Carter's biggest fear in the Iranian hostage-rescue mission was to avoid all risk, which is part of why the micro-managed mission failed.

Kinda sad that Jewish support is only dependent on support of Israel

And when the time comes that Bush tells Israel "no"....back to the Dem party they'll go.

Understood. But the cynicism (although understandable) coming from you, me, and a few others can't make a fence-sitter feel all that welcome. :-) So I say we have 'em all over for supper! I'll make the salad...

Many Jews have an active dislike for Christians and therefore feel more comfortable with the Democrats. Some have been voting Democrat without interruption since HST recognized Israel in 1948. Ironically, many Jews are unaware that evangelical Christians, who believe the Bible, are among the strongest defenders of the Jewish state! Some people are just slow to learn. I think the "government schools" used to call them "slow learners." Now's they're the "academically challenged."

This is amazing ?

This (the article) is KOOKY! This has to be a complete misread of the support and the reasons behind it.

Either the Jewish community has not been paying attention to Bush policy (and that goes back to Bush Sr too), OR the American Jewish community is itself tolerant or supportive of the idea of a Palestinian state.

Since under the Bush administration America has officially endorsed a Palestinian homeland (even with caveats) America and Israel are on an inevitable collision course. I'm surprised so few see it.

Considering Israel supports a Palestinian homeland, I'm not following you.

Surely you don't mean 100% of all Israel, do you?

Giving the Palestinians a homeland is not going to solve the problem. It's known what the objective of the Palestinians (and most Muslims in the area) is -- to drive the Jews OUT.

Israel will have to act. Having gone on record as "officially" endorsing a Palestinian homeland, America will have a stake in it, and as self-appointed world's policeman, will directly insinuate itself into the situation. Against Israel.

It's just following a + b + c. Connecting the dots.

In my case not cynicism at all. Is pure fact. Those that speak freely have no qualms with telling me what they think of pubs/conservatives/Bush etc etc. It aint nice.

Jackie Mason is in town for the next couple of weeks. Should I go see his show in celebration of this?

Don't walk to go see Jackie Mason live, run! He's simply the best comedian I've ever seen. But if you have any friends or family members that worship at the altar of political correctness, do not bring them to the show under any circumstances.

You were speaking of the Bush administration; I was speaking of the Israeli government.

I'm well aware of what the Palestinian intent is. I'm also aware that Israel has offered up land and a Palestinian state in "peace" talks. So I simply don't see the collision course you mentioned.

The only problem is that Republicans (who are generally more fiscally conservative) get "out bid" by the Democraps for their constintuency every time.

Sad, but true...
