"I also thought he had beat the cancer; maybe he was dealing with two types of cancer."
Well, do not know much about that; save to say, nothing I have read indicates that there were two types; he was diagnosed with 'testicular cancer'(which would correspond with later problems; and he did undergo radiation et al. . .
Yes, in three's; maybe he was number three.
There was Milton, and Dudley; just a few weeks ago (do not remember whether there was a #3 in there); but yes, they do kind of cluster. . .

Mr. Urich came and stayed several times in the lodge I manage in Orlando. He would come to speak at the Women Playing for T.I.M.E.'s golf tournament to benefit breast cancer awareness. This annual tournament has made millions and helped establish a breast diagnostic center at M. D. Anderson in Orlando. He was a very kind man and very generous with his time. I remember being surprised at what a big man he was - built like a football player, but you probably wouldn't realize that from seeing him on TV. I am very saddened by this as I had hoped he was winning his long battle with cancer. We lost the founder of the event, an incredible woman named Sheila Solomon, over a year ago. I'm sure she was there to greet him on the other side.

If I recall correctly, he played a Quisling-type leader of an occupied America.
Spenser: For Hire is one of my all-time favorites. He did seem like a very down-to-earth person in any interview I saw of him. God bless him and his family.

You're probably right. I guess I thought he had it beat. From what I heard, it was a very rare form of "joint cancer". I never heard of it. No matter what it was, I'm still sorry to see him go.

Lonesome Dove remains the finest TV "miniseries" that I have ever seen. It is outstanding, start to finish.

Really sorry to hear this. I helped customize an automobile for him in the late 70's early 80's. He was a great client, and we had a few laughs. Just curious... what sort of car? I recall reading somewhere that Robert Urich was a vintage Ford aficianado, which may explain the classic T-Bird in Vega$ and the '65 Mustang Fastback in Spenser: For Hire.
A good man, gone all too soon.

He had a very tranquil look, I suppose the fruit of his devotion to his family.
I didn't even know there was a Rusyn language. This description of it makes Hungarian look easy in comparison.

Sorry to hear of his passing -- a very rare soft tissue malignancy, indeed. I had a near brush with him in 1975 -- crossing the street in Las Vegas near the old Desert Inn. Girlfriend and I were admiring the sites of Vegas (lot different then) when this small convertible swerved to miss me - (not by much) - felt the breeze against my leg as it passed by at a rapid speed. Glanced at the car and noticed the license plate "TANNA" - looked at driver and noticed Robert Urich...he was doing the Dan Tanna series at the time - for you youngesters that was a Vegas private detective series co-starring Tony Curtis...since then I've always admired his acting - but admired his driving skills more !! Now...wonder what ever happenned to that girlfriend.....

Sad news. Robert Urich has been one of my favorite actors. I made it a point to see any shows that I knew he was a part of as well as all his own presentations.
"Celebrity News Date: April 16, 2002
"Robert Urich: One of the nice guys left us this morning after losing his battle with cancer. Urich, the star of Soap, Vega$, Spenser: For Hire, and The Lazarus Man, died at a hospital in Thousand Oaks, California with his family by his side. After being diagnosed with synovial cell sarcoma, a form of cancer that affects the body's joints, Urich and his wife, Heather Menzies, set up a fund for sarcoma research at the University of Michigan in order to help promote further research into the dreaded disease. Let's hope that their efforts quickly produce results that will help future patients. The popular 55-year-old star is survived by his wife, three children, a sister, two brothers and his mother."
Thanks to all of you that posted links on this thread. Robert ... Thanks for the memories. May God receive you and give you peace.

I liked him alot too palo.....and even more when I read, and watched his interviews about his cancer and how he fought the gloomy diagnosis and worked very hard to get his health back.
Sad day and much sympathy for his wife, 3 children, and many many fans!

this is from Robert Urich official home page
"Attitude is everything. It motivates action, which increases
productivity and improves morale, which perpetuates a positive attitude." - Robert Urich
"We can change the world when we change ourselves.
And the energy of our consciousness, like the energy of all light, continues into the eternity.
When there is light in the soul there will be beauty in the person.
When there is beauty in the person there will be harmony in the home.
When there is harmony in the home there will order in the nation.
When there is order in the nation there will be peace in the world." - Chinese Proverb
There is a section of the site where he personally answered questions ...

We miss you already, Robert Urich. May you be in a better place with joy and flowers all around.

He was one of my favorites, also because he was the husband of one woman and a family man that you NEVER heard anything untoward about.

Ice Pirates A classic. Well, some say it was not a classic and sci-fi fans didn't like it, but it was great fun.
