Tonight is the last night that the lights emanate from ground zero in Manhattan. At 11 PM tonight they will be shut off. I decided to take some pictures of the lights on their last night so I went to the Manhattan Ferry Pier near the Brooklyn Army Terminal not too far from my house in Sunset Park. The pictures were taken between 7:51 PM and 8:22 PM this evening before the guard threw us off the pier. It turns out the pier closes at sundown. In any case, I figured I'd share my pictures with the rest of the Freepers.
The towers were gone after 9-11, now the lights are gone as well.

Thank you for the pictures. We saw the lights when we went on the Hoboken Ferry Sat. night. We also saw the hundreds of tributes at Ground Zero with so many other people who were there to pay their respects. A very moving experience...

Is that white thing in photo 6 a seagull or a Duane Reade bag? Either way, pure New York. LOL!

In memory of BKO and BCM, what say you we freep this puppy and get the twin beams of light to be part of the permanent rebuilding? When they rebuild there -- if it is office space or a museum or a park -- I want those twin beams of light there in perpetuity. For Barbara Olsen and for Battalion Chief Moran.
That sure sounds like a good idea to me.

This is just fantastic. I'm trying to copy the photo to my pictures and also send it to myself in an Email and can't read the file. What program did you use? Again...it's chillingly gorgeous!

The closeup of the lights with the blue background is spooky. I wish it was bigger. (I looked at the site too.)

I don't think this is an actual photo (it may be enhanced) but it still gives me chills......I'm really disappointed that the lights will not be on when I'm in NYC in May. Check your Freep mail, please.

Cacique, these are outstanding!! Do you still need a ride down?

I saw the lights at night walking down 6th Ave heading towards Penn Station.
I was also amazed by the huge light all the way at the top.
How did they do that? Does light all gather at the top? Clearly I am not an electrical wiz but it was awesome to see live.

I have not read throught this entire thread yet...but the Empire State is red white and blue. Was it like that the whole week or just night you went?
That picture right after dusk is my favorite of your series.
If you can gather prints of each of them in order and put them in one of those frames where the pictures ascend from top to bottom you could make a pretty penny hawking your wares in Time Square. They are beautiful.
