That is funny, all MY hillbilly friends call me Texas too!

Comon thing, I guess. I spent 6 months in Arizona (that was long enough ... had to get back home) and all my friends out there called me "Texas."

Reminds me of the seen in the movie "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" where he's in a payphone trying to tell his friend that he's in Texas. She doesn't believe him until he holds the phone out in his hand and yells, "The stars at night, are big and bright...!" Everyone in the crowd around him immediately stops, claps their hands together four times, and finishes with, "Deep in the heart of Texas!", and then go back about their business.

My wife and I were at the coast one year (So. Padre). We ran into some of my coworkers down there (we lived in Austin at the time). Ended up having dinner with them. One of them was from one of the other states and the others were trying to convince him that we really did do this in Texas. Anyway ... as the happless transplant was in the restoom, one of the others convinced the entire eating populace in the restaurant to join in the chorus when he started singing.

It worked like a charm and the transplant bought it ... hook, line and sinker!

Texas is a wonderful place but as long as illegal immigration continues it will slowly be destroyed and melded into some Mexican superstate known as Aztlan. Don't believe it?....just watch how the media and politicians slobber over anything to do with Mexico or Mexicans. Texas has a great many admirable characteristics, BUT---Cajun food is better. Tex-mex isn't even in the running by comparison.

Whatever you like, come to Houston. Houstonians spend more per capita dining out than any other city in the world. Consequently, there's lots of excellent choices for any particular flavor you're interested in. Right now I'm off to lunch at Doneraki's, for their Wednesday fajita special. Sit down place, excellent service, and food faster than McDonald's (no exaggeration), yet with superb quality. Usually I eat Chinese, Thai or Vietnamese, but these fajitas are fantastic.

I live in Texas and have only two disagreements with the list. One, Juneteenth is an absolute embarassment. I was shocked that it was considered a holiday when I moved here and I had never heard of it 'til I got here. Second, Texas does NOT have the best BBQ. That belongs to Memphis.
