Well, I have to hand it to the boys (and the girls) over at Fresno. After an admittedly hamhanded rollout, they worked overtime and doubletime to listen to our complaints and return FR to a look and usbility that we were accustomed to.
The news bars (breaking, front page, etc) on the right are back. The colors and layout no longer scream to co-workers or bosses that you might be taking a moment or two to freep at work. The fonts are nice again. The number of items available per page view has increased.
Now, couple that with the greatly enhanced features, and we have what constitutes the very best forum on the net. I am very impressed with the responsiveness of John Robinson et. al., and am very glad he has listened to us all. Please, those monthly contributors who cancelled, please come back. The boys are behaving again and all is forgiven. :o)
Huzzah for Free Republic and the men and women who make it work!

It is better. Change is not good. Excellence is good. Thank you for having the courage to reach higher.

I agree Laz. They listened.
Now if we can only get our Gob't to do the same.

And if I know anything about John Robinson, it is this: He has the skills necessary to make all the changes he removed, something that a user can switch on if a user wishes to do so.

I have seen the changes John has implemented in response to the (overwhelming amount of) feedback this weekend. As someone who has had to work a few overnighters to make sure that all is good for the customers, I want to express my appreciation for his efforts and the work done by his colleagues this weekend.
Although I didn't feel it necessary to add to the complaints or suggestions this weekend, I am happy that these changes have been made. I am more comfortable navigating today than I was yesterday morning.

I agree Laz. They listened. They are a very consumer-oriented team. The ability of the boys (and girls) of Fresno to admit a mistake by rectifying it -- and quickly -- is quite gratifying.
Now if we can only get our Gob't to do the same.
The only way that will happen is if government becomes an entity funded entirely by voluntary donations. :o)

I love change, except when it comes to our great US Constitution. Jim Robinson and the gang are to be commended on how quickly they responded to, shall we say, the 'advice' many of us (including myself) gave during those harrowing hours of yesterday.
Excellent job!!

Ping for progress. Great to see the response to complaints (from me and others). Much better than y'day, but I am still not convinced.
BTW, I set my number of posts per d/l to 20 but I still get 50. Is this a "feature"?
Keep up the good work folks. Nice to see the efforts.

No....this new format STILL doesn't do housework for me......I'm leaving..........! I mean, geez, if these guys can add all this neat stuff why the heck can't they do a load of laundry for me, huh? Is that too much to ask?

I've had to work those overnights.
However, if you follow JohnRobs schedule, overnight for him is 2PM to 10PM. He's up from 10PM on. :o)

You are on target. I was thrilled to open up FR today and see that today's look is more usable and readable. Thank you FR for listening to us!!!

Is that too much to ask?Free Republic will gladly do all your housework. All you need to do is up your contributions to 40,000 dollars annually, and we will send a Free Republic worker right away.
We cannot guarantee she will speak English, though.

Tex you will have to get an update on your USB driver to get FR to do housework. I upgraded and now FR cuts my grass!
