I like the way Britain's going but you will never hear about this in the mainstream press here in the US.

and nearly half would be prepared to kill in order to protect their family,

Wow, so half would let harm come to their families in order not to risk killing a criminal

Now, who in "gun-free" Britain will answer the phone and admit to owning a gun?

"Sixty percent of respondents believe people have the right to take the law into their own hands...

I wonder how high the percentage would have been if they had asked people if they have the right to defend themselves?

But a Home Office spokeswoman said barring special licenses for certain handguns and shotguns, there were only 125,000 licensed firearms altogether in England and Wales.

Amazing! You mean to say there are only 125,000 politically/royally connected people in Britain? The serfs, of course, deserve to die.

The Limeys are obviously learning that classic bit of American folk wisdom: Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I thought Tony Martin got life without parole. Was there a reprieve?

The Tony Martin case hinged on whether the burglar was shot in the back and actually leaving the house already. The jury decided that it was a deliberate killing which could have been avoided and that's what condemned Martin.

Shooting warning shots at burglars or trespassers is not against the law: here are a couple of nespaper quotes about burglars in the same area by some of Martin's friends/neighbours:

'Living in this area you are at the mercy of the travellers and local villains. I saw three strangers coming across my field late at night. I fired a number of warning shots over their heads and they ran away.'

Another man who shot at burglars caught stealing a safe from his property just three miles from Martin's house said he would appear only if his evidence was heard in camera after he too received threats.

If Martin had shot the burglar in what the law considered to be 'self-defence' ie directly threatened, then he would not have been charged.

My sympathy remains with Tony Martin: how can you tell the intentions of strangers who break into your house in the early hours of the morning?

"and nearly half would be prepared to kill in order to protect their family," the firm said."

Not even half? WTF is wrong with these people?

Why'd we bother saving them in WWII?

It seems "Tommy" is singing soprano these days! You British men (if there are any of you left) need to put the castrating Feminists, and Liberal wussies back in their place, and get on with life!!

Crime has become a hot topic in Britain, with street crime up 40 percent in January alone and controversy mounting over a government plan for the early release of non-violent prisoners.

I was told by a liberal once that I was too closed-minded and that I should reconsider my ideological points of view and consider becoming more liberal. I was told that there open-mindedness was a breath of fresh air in the world. Ha! After seeing what the liberals have done to England it is proof positive that liberalism IS open-minded and a breath of fresh air; So open-minded that their brains have scattered to the four winds and have been replaced with fresh air. That's why I call them scatter-brains and air-heads!

"Guns feature alongside baseball bats and hammers among the arsenal kept by almost one in 10 worried householders," security firm Micromark said on Tuesday, citing a telephone survey of 1,000 people.

Like they are going to admit to a stranger who calls up on the phone that they are keeping an illegal gun in their homes? Have the British gone COMPLETELY daft?
