A day after State Senator Patrick O’Malley’s campaign admitted that its key financial backer printed a grossly distorted mailing in Southern Illinois suggesting Jim Ryan supports gay marriages, the Chicago Tribune reported that recorded phone messages were blanketing the state with more lies and distortions attacking Jim Ryan.
The lies and distortions exactly mirror those being made by O’Malley.
The O’Malley campaign has not answered the question whether it is behind the calls.
The following message is being received in southern Illinois:
Hello, my name is Terry and I am with the Bi-Gay-and Lesbian Federation. I’m calling you today to ask you to join me in supporting Jim Ryan for governor. Jim Ryan supports gay rights and was recognized for his support of gay rights by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in their endorsement of Ryan. Like you, Jim Ryan thinks sexual orientation should be included in the civil rights code of the Illinois Constitution, opening the door to gay marriages as in other states, like Vermont. On Tuesday, stand up for gay rights and vote for Jim Ryan, Republican for Governor. Thank you.
The following message is being received in northern Illinois:
Hello, my name is John Pulley and I am with IL Republicans for Honest Government. Join me in voting to clean up the corruption in state government by voting for Patrick O’Malley for Governor. Recently, it has been revealed that Jim Ryan knew about the licensees for bribes scandal, but Jim Ryan chose to protect George Ryan rather than keep his promise to root out public corruption; even after 39 people were convicted and even after children died. On Tuesday say no to corruption by voting for Patrick O’Malley for Governor.
“Patrick O’Malley must believe that a campaign is a game where truth and integrity don’t matter,” Ryan said.
The Southern Illinoisan reported this morning that a mailing is being distributed throughout Southern Illinois suggesting that Jim Ryan favors gay marriages. The article points out that Jim Ryan does not favor gay marriages.
O’Malley’s campaign can’t even shoot straight on who was behind the mailing.
A spokesman told the Southern Illinoisan that the mailing was produced by Family Taxpayers Network headed by Jack Roeser, a man who has poured nearly $500,000 into O’Malley’s campaign. Roeser denied being responsible for the mailing in both the Southern Illinoisan and Chicago Tribune.
Roeser and O’Malley have unleashed a blitz of mail pieces riddled with false statements about Jim Ryan.
Among the lies:
• Jim Ryan supports gay marriages. FALSE. Jim Ryan has always opposed gay marriages.
• O’Malley continues to state Jim Ryan never formed a public corruption unit in his office. FALSE. The unit was formed and 35 public officials have been convicted of various crimes.
• O’Malley claims Jim Ryan looked the other way on George Ryan corruption.
AN ABSOLUTE LIE. A federal investigation into corruption was underway that ultimately led to dozens of convictions. A responsible state law enforcement agency would never conduct a parallel investigation on the same set of facts. O’Malley claims that a federal investigation was not underway at the time and the proof he offers: That George Ryan said so.
O’Malley claims in a mailing that Jim Ryan would not ban live birth abortions. FALSE. Jim Ryan supports the ban.
O’Malley claims that Jim Ryan favors an expansion of gambling. FALSE. Jim Ryan opposes an expansion of gambling.
O’Malley claims that Jim Ryan would not reign in George Ryan’s runaway spending. FALSE. Jim Ryan has talked continually about fiscal discipline and has outlined a detailed plan to achieve it. O’Malley makes the claim despite gladly taking $9 million in member pork, including $1 million to buy a municipal golf course. O’Malley also supported a measure to lift tax caps, which amounted to a $389 million tax increase.
O’Malley continues to say that two defendants in a civil lawsuit Jim Ryan filed against Life Education Center were frequent campaign contributors. FALSE. Neither ever gave the campaign any money.
O’Malley’s new campaign ad is an outrageous lie, falsely tying Jim Ryan to the license-for-bribes scandal. The ad includes a photo of Jim Ryan’s head and body where Jim Ryan’s head is suddenly removed.
Ryan’s other opponent, Corinne Wood, is also running a false ad, alleging “kickbacks” and “shake downs.” That ad has been denounced by former Gov. Jim Edgar, state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka and Congressman Henry Hyde. Hyde described the ad as a “new low in negative advertising.”
O'Malley get my vote
I prefer to look at it as Keyes agreeing with me, rather than the other way around. I support O'Malley despite the baggage (Keyes' and your support) that he carries.
Keyes is a marginalized nut case. Fortunately for O'Malley, the support of people like you and Keyes won't have a great deal of negative effect on his efforts.
The kindest thing that could be said about ryan II is that he is embedded in the mushy middle up to his eyeballs in all issues. Here is what I have "for starters" and for the finish. ryan II is opposed to the right to keep and bear arms. The Illinois State Rifle Association endorsed O'Malley. Nuff said.

This is incorrect. Reagan's Eleventh Commandment was "Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican".
His goal was to keep deadly infighting to a minimum in primaries to allow Republicans to pull together to capture political offices in the general elections.
On the surface, it appears to be an idealistic goal. But it was a canny one. Reagan himself was a master infighter and great strategist in political campaigns. But his commandment was not just a statement off the top of his head. He knew what he was saying. He was cautioning against EXCESSIVE PUBLIC smears among rival Republican candidates in primaries. It only weakens and discredits the party and makes it more difficult for primary victors to take on the Democrat candidates.
His words are just as true today as they were at the time he uttered them.

Jim Ryan has a brain tumor. That's not speculation. He says so himself. This is Ryan's cancer #3. He says so himself. The Republican gubernatorial nomination is not a going away present.
Jim Ryan voluntarily gave Jesse Shakedown Jackson $300,000 of lawsuit proceeds for a "job training program" DURING the scandal over Jackson funneling tax-exempt funds to his mistress. What kind of jobs will old Jess be using the money from Ryan to train those women for???? Surprise, surprise!!!
After twenty five years of RINO governors, it is time for a real Republican and that would be Patrick O'Malley. If not, I would vote for Jim Ryan in November in the hope that he might put his authority where his mouth is for so long as he may live.

You are probably still smarting over the way Ronald Reagan and George Deukmejian lost California so regularly. Reagan carried Illinois both times. Peter Fitzgerald was badmouthed by the lily-livered when he ran as an outsider, but he managed to win, didn't he? My Congressman is Don Manzullo. Surely someone as conservative as he could not win the John B. Anderson/Lynn Martin pro-abort, anti-gun, pro-tax RINOCRAP seat in Congress, could he? That's what local party leaders thought but Don beat them in a primary and beat the incumbent one-term leftpest DemonRat and now Don goes virtually unopposed. Last time he carried DemonRatic Rockford handily.
Stop spreading the manure that is already proving to be blatantly false in your homestate of California where Bill Simon has already disposed of his RINO as O'Malley may do on Tuesday, and where Simon is leading in current polls over Greyout Davis. It would be hard for anyone outside of California, as I am, to be able to talk about your election without following last year's energy fiasco in California and the current budget mess.
If you want to give Illinois Republicans advice to vote squish, what do you know about:
1. The George Ryan commercial trucker's license for bribes scandal which apparently financed his rise from Secretary of State to Governor here and has caused numerous fatalities with utterly unqualified tractor trailer drivers mowing down vans full of children while RINO George Ryan says: I don't know nothing and his pal Attorney General Ryan says: It's none of my business when Illinois GOP officeholders set up bribery shops in motor vehicle facilities?
2. Attorney General Jim Ryan handing Jesse Jackson $300,000 in proceeds from a state lawsuit against a woman's shoe manufacturer on an absolutely discretionary basis to fund a women's "job training" program at the very time that Jesse Jackass was being investigated for forking over tremendous sums to his mistress oin hush money from tax-exempts which he controls. Jim Ryan also saw fit not to investigate the Rev. Shakedown's tax violations of ILLINOIS tax violations?
3. Jim Ryan's proposal to include gay rights in Illinois' civil rights code? Illinois is not San Francisco or La Jolla.
4. Jim Ryan's REFUSAL to prosecute a liberal Protestant hospital named (I kid you not) Christ Hospital where the institution has a policy of inducing premature labor at the 5 month stage so that "unwanted" babies can be born alive and then abandoned within the hospital to die without care?
Finally, Jim Ryan is not a RINO like riordan but he has the unmistakeable odor of deep corruption, spinelessness and good ol' boyism about him and he is VERY unlikely to live to complete his term since he has brain cancer and is on his third bout with cancer at an early age. I do not want to be governed by J. Random Lietenant Governor candidate. Who should we vote for in the Lieutenant Governor;s race since you know so much about who will win or lose in landslides in Illinois which you apparently think is more liberal than California. Puhleeze!
