The American people believe him. Dubya has given us back our national pride, and he has strengthened our faith in the basic righteousness of our country and her place in history. For that, Americans revere him. And he accepts that adulation, with grace. And, with humility. Well said!

Bravo! Seeing Pres. Bush last nite mingling amongst the US athletes at the opening ceremonies of the Olympics was a perfect example of the essence of our great leader. He's one of us, as comfortable with us as we are with him, but yet with a genuine presence of leadership. And we feel it more deeply and genuinely than any phony "Ah feel your pain" could ever hope to elicit.

Hate to break up this love fest, but I doubt Dubya is much admired in most of the rest of the world whose people consider the killing of 3000+ Afghan civilians in an illegal, undeclared war a war crime. Dubya stepped right into Osama's trap. Nice going Dubya, Rummy, and the rest of this administration's warmongers.

When my mom called me last night to tell me that the Olympoc opening was on, she casually mentioned that Bush was there. We got into a discusion and she later said that it seems like he has a "special blessing" on his Presidency. She mentioned that she cannot remember the people of this country "loving" a President and WANTING to hear him speak in a long time. There is something so wonderful about this man's leadership that has an effect on a lot of people. My own 8 yo even loves President Bush & Laura Bush. She says that his eyes "twinkle & smile" like her papa's and that knowing he is in charge makes him feel safe. My soon to be 16 yo is excited that he will be able to vote for him in the next election. My kids are actually paying attention to politics and asking questions and listening to answers. We watch the speaches together and they think that W is so "cool".

Thanks for posting this. It's amazing to me that 80 to 90 percent of the people understand George W, whilst the media in all its glory totally misunderstands him.
You've captured the essence of the man, and for that I thank you.

I couldn't admire the man more if I tried. As much as I love and enduringly respect the great Ronald Reagan (the man who quite possibly may have saved this country in a very real sense), I identify with and connect with George W. in a way I never have with any other public figure. I am overwhelmed by our Dubya's bravery; grateful for his unflinching leadership at this pivotal time in our history; well aware of his humanity, including his strengths and weaknesses; touched by his genuine enjoyment of people, especially kids, no matter their station in life. This president is, in a number of profound ways, more Ronald Reagan's heir than his own father's (or Ronny's own children). This is one remarkable man we have in the White House these days.

After reading anti-Bush posts today, this piece was a breath of fresh air. I love my President. I have nothing intelligent to offer in this discussion. Just my coveted Bump! LOL Thank you so much for posting this!

For those who are unaware of it, there is a register of bump lists
HERE.
Adding a thread to a bump list is quite different than pinging a list of people ..... FReepers aren't on bump lists ..... only threads are.
Anyone can add a thread to a bump list by typing in the correct name for that list.

I have argued that after the embarassment of clinton, the American people were just anxious for someone to live up to the honor of the office...and W. has delivered on that score.

Wonderful article, well written, and I totally agree. One of the most endearing things about the President is his ability to tell it like it is. He doesn't just play to the polls, he says what he thinks, and I think this nation was hungry for that kind of voice after 8 years of double speak.
