Then why do they go through people's homes, on a search and destroy mission, looking fo these things?

Unless things have changed in the last 30 years, I believe you are misinformed. t\The only time they came to our house was to find out why we hadn't been to church in the last 2 weeks and to collect money for "Fast Sunday" to feed poor mormons. They never searched my house or they would have found my mother smoking like a chiminy.

WE CAN'T WATCH THE OLYMPICS ON REGULAR TV, BECAUSE NBC IS TOO MONEY-GRUBBING aPPARENTLY TO GIVE COMPLETE COVERAGE...so here we sit, wondering how the ladies' mogul skiing is going--it STINKS! (There, some relevant Olympics commentary)

Are the olymics on TV, or is it just some video tape of some olympic events that took place in the past? Nothing I hate more than watching re-runs of sports. Especially BORING sports.

Lets introduce the Official Ancient Greek athletic uniforms, and THEN I'll watch reruns of the women's sports. Everyone in San Francisco will watch the men's sports.

A winner is in the books. Stefania Belmondo of Italy won the first gold medal of the Winter Olympics on Saturday, capturing the women's 15-kilometer freestyle cross-country race. The U.S. has a chance for some gold of its own in the moguls, which is under way.

Actually from what I recall only Alcohol and "hot drinks" and "cold drinks" are prohibited.

You are correct on the alcohol part, the 'hot drinks' part refers to coffee and tea, and not because of the caffeine but because of other harmful chemicals that they contain (such as tannic acid). I don't know where you found the part about the 'cold drinks'. I personally enjoy a Coke every now and again, and not the luke-warm kind. Oh yeah, incase you didn't guess, I'm one of those mormons.

Cocaine, Marjuana, Heroin are not mentioned in the "word of wisdom" either. A lot of my Mormon cousins took that to heart.

LOL... I think that the reason that those particular substances are not mentioned is because they were not an issue back in the day. I promise, they are frowned upon now.

Truth is Mormons DO ingest caffeine. There is a joke here in Utah that the difference between a Mormon and a non-Mormon is the temperature of their caffeine. Mormons will drink soda all day and night, but not touch a drip of coffee or tea, decaffeinated or not. Hot chocolate? No problem. Stephen’s, an LDS family-owned business here makes the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had.

Italy's Stefania Belmondo has claimed the first gold of the 19th Winter Olympics

SOLDIER HOLLOW, Utah (Reuters) - Italy's Stefania Belmondo has claimed the first gold of the 19th Winter Olympics, offering herself the perfect farewell present as she won the women's 15 km cross-country skiing event.

The 33-year-old veteran, who has announced she will quit the sport after the Games to start a family, won in a sprint finish from long-time rival Larisa Lazutina of Russia.

Lazutina saw her hopes of winning a sixth gold to equal the women's Olympic record dashed in the final few metres.

Belmondo, who now boasts eight Olympic medals as well as 13 from world championships, won in 39 minutes 54.4 seconds.

A bitterly disappointed Lazutina was less than two seconds behind, while third place went to Czech Katerina Neumannova. She had won a silver and bronze in Nagano four years ago.

Lazutina had looked set for victory in the final stages but Belmondo, whose only other Olympic gold came in the 30 km freestyle, found another gear and overtook her with the finish line in sight.

The race was a close run affair throughout, with less than seven seconds separating the first 14 at the halfway mark.

Lazutina, who won three titles in Nagano, and compatriot Yulia Chepalova, another major medal hope, shared the lead with Belmondo for much of the race, but no one could make the decisive break.

There was still a leading pack of nine at 11.6 km, but the gold and silver medallists broke clear on the final uphill of the course.

Chepalova had led at halfway but was closely shadowed by a large pack containing the pre-race favourites. She faded to fourth, around eight seconds behind the winner.

Lazutina, a real all-rounder and as comfortable in the classical discipline as in freestyle, will get several other chances of matching the women's Olympic record at Salt Lake City. Rarely missing the podium, she has now won medals in her last six Games races.

I have friends of mine that used to have to scurry around and hide their cigarettes, tea, beer, vodka when the elders came to the door. And yes they looked around the various rooms. Eventually all this hiding of stuff every time the elders came made them so nervous they left the church and promtply were told that they were officially 'un-baptised'. LOL

Fabulous show last night.

Don't anyone miss the womens moguls at Deer Valley. We could be looking at a U.S. sweep of the podium.

I'm one of those mormons.

Technically I'm still "officially" a Mormon because they never excommunicated me and I haven't bothered to send in my resignation so that they can excommunicate me.

In light of JimRob's new no bashing rule against people of "other" religions, do you think it would be ok for me (as an official member of the LDS Church) to do a little Mormon bashing?

I can ordain you as an official Baptist/Prespbeterian/Lutheran/Methodist/Catholic, and you can bash back. What do you think? It might be fun. We'll start a "Bash your OWN religion thread."

I agree, the ceremonies last night were great! I like to see in what manner they will light the flame. I think it was Lake Placid when someone shot an arrow through the air and as it passed where the flame would be, it lit it. I think that was the most memorable 'lighting'. jmo
