This is for the local people on the scene to provide results and updates to family members and friends in the FR community.
Press reports should trickle in through the day.
Unless things have changed in the last 30 years, I believe you are misinformed. t\The only time they came to our house was to find out why we hadn't been to church in the last 2 weeks and to collect money for "Fast Sunday" to feed poor mormons. They never searched my house or they would have found my mother smoking like a chiminy.
Lets introduce the Official Ancient Greek athletic uniforms, and THEN I'll watch reruns of the women's sports. Everyone in San Francisco will watch the men's sports.
A Norwegian leads the moguls after the first qualifying.
I wouldnt mind leaving details about the winning atheletes as the games continue.
You are correct on the alcohol part, the 'hot drinks' part refers to coffee and tea, and not because of the caffeine but because of other harmful chemicals that they contain (such as tannic acid). I don't know where you found the part about the 'cold drinks'. I personally enjoy a Coke every now and again, and not the luke-warm kind. Oh yeah, incase you didn't guess, I'm one of those mormons.
Cocaine, Marjuana, Heroin are not mentioned in the "word of wisdom" either. A lot of my Mormon cousins took that to heart.
LOL... I think that the reason that those particular substances are not mentioned is because they were not an issue back in the day. I promise, they are frowned upon now.
Everyone will post it when an American wins anyway..
SOLDIER HOLLOW, Utah (Reuters) - Italy's Stefania Belmondo has claimed the first gold of the 19th Winter Olympics, offering herself the perfect farewell present as she won the women's 15 km cross-country skiing event.
The 33-year-old veteran, who has announced she will quit the sport after the Games to start a family, won in a sprint finish from long-time rival Larisa Lazutina of Russia.
Lazutina saw her hopes of winning a sixth gold to equal the women's Olympic record dashed in the final few metres.
Belmondo, who now boasts eight Olympic medals as well as 13 from world championships, won in 39 minutes 54.4 seconds.
A bitterly disappointed Lazutina was less than two seconds behind, while third place went to Czech Katerina Neumannova. She had won a silver and bronze in Nagano four years ago.
Lazutina had looked set for victory in the final stages but Belmondo, whose only other Olympic gold came in the 30 km freestyle, found another gear and overtook her with the finish line in sight.
The race was a close run affair throughout, with less than seven seconds separating the first 14 at the halfway mark.
Lazutina, who won three titles in Nagano, and compatriot Yulia Chepalova, another major medal hope, shared the lead with Belmondo for much of the race, but no one could make the decisive break.
There was still a leading pack of nine at 11.6 km, but the gold and silver medallists broke clear on the final uphill of the course.
Chepalova had led at halfway but was closely shadowed by a large pack containing the pre-race favourites. She faded to fourth, around eight seconds behind the winner.
Lazutina, a real all-rounder and as comfortable in the classical discipline as in freestyle, will get several other chances of matching the women's Olympic record at Salt Lake City. Rarely missing the podium, she has now won medals in her last six Games races.
Don't anyone miss the womens moguls at Deer Valley. We could be looking at a U.S. sweep of the podium.
Technically I'm still "officially" a Mormon because they never excommunicated me and I haven't bothered to send in my resignation so that they can excommunicate me.
In light of JimRob's new no bashing rule against people of "other" religions, do you think it would be ok for me (as an official member of the LDS Church) to do a little Mormon bashing?
I can ordain you as an official Baptist/Prespbeterian/Lutheran/Methodist/Catholic, and you can bash back. What do you think? It might be fun. We'll start a "Bash your OWN religion thread."
