10 Illegal Aliens arrested at San Diego nuclear submarine base
Roger Hedgecock Show (San Diego) ^ | January 28, 2002

Posted on 01/28/2002 2:05:28 PM PST by John Jorsett

KOGO AM 600 talk show host Roger Hedgecock has just broken the story that the INS has arrested ten illegal aliens (he gave the nationalities, but I can't recall any other than Honduras) at the Point Loma nuclear submarine base in San Diego. The aliens were employed by a contractor and were engaged in the sandblasting and painting of a nuclear submarine! 5 of the aliens had obtained base clearances, and 5 had not. Some aliens fled at the approach of the INS, causing the lockdown of the base. 2 were later apprehended when their hiding place was located. When the INS refused to comment, the KOGO news staff requested the name of the FBI agent in charge of Homeland Security for the San Diego area. They were told that there was none.

If illegals can obtain base clearance to a highly-sensitive area like a nuclear sub base, things are in a bad state indeed.

This is outrageous. Where is our Homeland Security? I will be very happy when they clean up the weakest link----INS!!!!!

Question: are you willing to carry some form of identification that establishes your citizenship at all times?

That's a straw man argument implying that there is only one way of combating illegal immigration. The most effective way to stop illegal immigration, in addition to sealing off the borders, is to make the penalty for hiring illegal immigrants so high on businesses that it becomes uneconomical. That means that prospective hires need to PROVE beyond all doubt that they are legal by evidencing a social security card, a birth certificate, a green card, a drivers license and after that they have to go through a required background check. The onus is thus placed squarely on the business, just like the onus is placed on taxpayers to prove they are innocent. If an employer screws up...tough rocks.

If truth be told, just about everyone can spot an illegal alien. We don’t need anymore of the “nod and wink” flimsy excuses like "he showed me his bogus green card". If employer sanctions are applied in the manner I described, law-abiding citizens will not have to carry around some citizenship ID card.

Blame the FBI, not the Navy. The exterior of a submarine is classified CONFIDENTIAL. All that's required for this type of access is a National Agency Check, paid for by the applicant (in this case, the contractor).

Only access to SECRET and above require a Background Investigation of any type.

I remember a nation that not so long ago was a nation of laws. It was a nation with a Constitution. It's citizens were recognized as the true rulers, and were honored above all others. It was a nation with a soul. Where has she gone?

That nation if not dead is certainly on its death bed. And Bush seems to be only making the nation's condition more critical with his "free for all" immigration policies and his refusal to protect our borders.

The answer is no! and who is going to check all these smart cards they can't do the job now of keeping them out.......and a card is going to stop them??

Isn't it amazing how common sense eludes the unlimited, open borders immigration advocates? They are always looking for any reason to excuse the inexcusable.

If the non-citizen isn't carrying the ID, and merely says "I am a citizen," doesn't that kind of negate the idea of having any ID to begin with?

Not really. The people asking the question will know he is lying, when he says "I am a citizen". There are very few good illegal alien liers.

The interviewing/interrogation techniques we use in INS are very effective. It is very easy to tell if someone is lying to you and then trip them up in the interview.

I'm considered an armature, only be working for INS since 1997, and I catch them 99% of the time.

The Terror War on the domestic front is a joke... President Bush asks citizens make sacrifices while aliens wander at will. Any apprehension of illegals at the current rate is a spit into the wind.

It is a joke Sabertooth. It is the law abiding citizens that are being roped in with this nonsense because our very own government is bought and paid for by political and business lobbyists that WANT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATON TO CONTINUE UNABATED.

Implant all aliens coming into this country, those that overstay, GPS will find them. Implant all illegal aliens as they are caught.

That's a start.

Part of the process--and it would be a multistep one--would be a Social Security number check. A bogus SSN is enough to get you an extended stay at a Graybar Resort while everything else gets microscopically checked, subsequently to be deported to your native land. Also, the amount of data currently available on each of us LEGITIMATE residents of America, if it were collated into one usable file, would make identity theft a real challenge--not impossible, but a lot harder than you're describing. Among other things, assuming someone managed to steal a valid Social Security Number, cross-checking through the other data tracks would reveal the fraud pretty quickly.
You are supplying your own counter-argument for a national ID. The cheapest cheesiest background check, like the kind you can buy for $99 on the Internet, could answer whether someone is who they say they are, and whether they are here legally. If we had a system of rewards for turning in illegals (say a $1000 reward and a $200 filing fee, forfeit the $200 if you are wrong) we could be rid of all illegals for the cost of 2 years of the INS budget, or less.

The problem begins with illegals buying/obtaining fraudulent birth certificates and passports. With those, any other form of I.D. is also fraudulent. What's the point of a national I.D. if it's obtained with bogus SS numbers? Or am I missing something?

Put the employers that hire illegals in the hot seat, just like the TAXPAYERS with the IRS…no matter how good their fraudulent IDs are. If an employer hires illegal aliens they pay a fine to such an extent that they will not want to continue the practice. The reality is that most people can recognize the profile of an illegal alien. A rigorous background check of an applicant should take care of any uncertainties. Sure, this will cream some businesses. SO WHAT! The IRS is creaming TAXPAYERS every year in part because of our lack of immigration control. Enough is enough.

The photo in reply #71 was a picture of a "Boomer", a ballistic sub that FresnoDA was kind enough to post.

I was not trying to imply that the base near San Diego was anything other than a fast attack base. You are correct about attack subs being there.

I just like ballistic subs. I served on the USS Woodrow Wilson, SSBN 624 (Polaris boat) out of Guam and I was a project engineer at Naval Reactors (NR) in DC for Admiral Rickover for the Ohio class Trident ballistic subs. I also worked on the Los Angeles class attack subs at NR.

For your info, the address of the photo in reply #71 is:

http://www.ssbn608.org/images/Jpg/underway.jpg

What this tells us is that it is a ballistic sub with hull number 608.

You can determine this by right clicking on the photo with your mouse and selecting "properties".

Also SSBN's have a distinct feature, a "hump" on the hull that extends toward the stern and is the ballistic missile launch tube deck with hatches.

I would enjoy anyone else also posting pictures of fast attacks subs as well. I enjoy looking at both fast attacks and ballistic missile subs

Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a side by side world with the current world. Is this really happening in the USA? Then I think about what was governing our country for 8 years and realize why this has happened.

True Clinton was a criminal and a traitor but don't delude yourself that the GOP didn't have a hand in where we find America today. They could have taken out Clinton anytime but chose, when Clinton was dealing out blackmail cards to some of the higher ups in the GOP, to protect their own jobs instead of putting the country first. That plus, Where is the GOP any different than the Democrats when it comes to immigration?

Well, I don't get any pleasure out of saying it, but I lean your direction on that one fella. An oath of office is an oath of office. Presidents swear to enforce the laws of this nation and to protect it's borders. I don't think it's hard to decide whether this one has or not.

It is way past time to seal the borders and deport illegals. At the very least it is the first thing that should have been done on Sepember 11.

Like DUH! It is quite clear to me that when Bush said "Go Back To Life As Normal" he meant that for himself as well. With Bush the message “IMO” is: We can't stop this very prosperous business of illegal immigration for some of my contributors to get in the way of fully assuring the freedoms and protections of the American citizens of this country.

It is way past time to seal the borders and deport illegals. At the very least it is the first thing that should have been done on Sepember 11. Revoke ALL existing student Visas to individuals who come from states known to support terrorism and send those people back. Do NOT issue any more to students in those countries. And do NOT make US citizens pay the price for terrorism. If they want to ID somebody, make people who are not citizens have ID. If they are caught without it, deport them. Plain common sense. It ain't gonna happen though. The reasons being: (1) Common sense went out of fashion years ago, (2) the republicans support cheap labor and (3) the Democrats want uneducated voters. We're beating our heads against the wall if we think anything significant is going to be done about this problem.

Great post sweetliberty. I still can't figure out why the GOP thinks they will benefit from a new massive underclass that the democrats with the republicans help are importing. It boggles the mind. Unless you look at the two parties as one.
