The International Bible Society said Monday that America's best-selling modern Bible is about to get an update using gender-neutral wording, despite past criticism of that idea from conservative Christians.
The revision will be called "Today's New International Version," or TNIV. The original "New International Version," which has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide since 1978, will remain on the market.

I put this in the breaking news because I wanted to get as many comments as possible; I'm curious what everyone thinks/knows about this. For example, does anyone know if this means they're going to refer to God as "It", and not "He", in the new version?

Sickening and not surprising

Also, terms referring to God and Jesus Christ have not been altered.
Doesn't look like it.

The NIV like everything else that is not KLV is taken from corrupted texts. I trust none of them except the King James Version.

Just more PC fanatics rewriting history and destroying the English language. Last I looked I was part of the HUMAN race, but I am now a part of the HUPERSON race? I think not. Rewriting the Bible is the last straw!!! A bunch of feminists radicals that hate MEN are responsible for this attrocity!!

".....does anyone know if this means they're going to refer to God as "It", and not "He", in the new version?" Not that I support or agree with altering the words in the Bible any at all.... but the article does say,"terms referring to God and Jesus Christ have not been altered. ". So hopefully at least we will be spared that awful possibility you spoke of.

Good thing that the Greek and Hebrew languages aren't "gender nuetral".

I certainly hope that this is not the only necessary change they will make. For example, many of our wonderful friends of other faiths are offended by the frequent references to Christ, especially in the second half of the Bible. If this could also be changed, it would make the Bible much less offensive to many people. I think it is maore more important for today's Christians to be concerned with building and maintaining those elaborate buildings than it is alienating many fine folks who be helping us pay for them. Christianity needs to move much more than it has toward Unitarianism and follow the model of the Episcoplians. The Episcopalians were able to change a large but rigid group of believers into a very small group of leftists by being very flexible about dogma. The unisex Bible is a fine start but if we really want to run Christianity into the ground, let's also think about getting rid of Christ and many of the hard things that Christianity tries to make us do.

Folks who insist on gender-neutral are typically not big Bible buyers...
To: wwjdn
Nobody is going to buy that bible except nonbelievers anyway.

Throw away your NIV and certainly don't buy this garbage.
To: FourtySeven
Yes, it matters. Here are some examples:
Mark 1:17
Gender-neutral NIrV: "... I will make you fishers of people."
Revised NIrV: "... I will make you fishers of men."
John 11:50
Gender-neutral NIrV: "It is better if one person dies for the people ..."
Revised NIrV: "It is better if one man dies ..."
Acts 1:21
Gender-neutral NIrV: "So we need to choose someone to take his place. It will have to be a person ..."
Revised NIrV: "... It will have to be a man ..."

Folks who insist on gender-neutral are typically not big Bible buyers...Important point.. I wonder if the marketing staff considered it..
