My daughter was born last December. When we told the
hospital staff that we did not want her vaccinated for
Hep B they looked at us like we were from Mars!

My liberal sister who works in a neo-natal intensive
care ward is starting to see a trend occuring with this
vaccination and autism, the primary culprit looks to be
the mercury based preservative.

We had all told, three doctors and countless nurses
us about our decision, it was nuts!

too late here, my grandson born 10-26-01 had this shot.....now Im worried!
I asked the Doc before if it was necessary and she said it was NOW normal procedure with newborns...she looked at me as though I was an old worried grandmother who knew nothing about taking care of babies...she even made a snide remark about things being a lot different than 25 years ago!

When our daughter was born 6 years ago, the hospital did not give us any real option on the Hep vac. They had us sign some papers and took her away for an "exam". A happy baby came back to us a sick baby, ran a fever for several days and completely ruined any chance for my wife to breast-feed her. She was so dehydrated from the fever we had to resort to a bottle. When we complained they said this was standard practice and implied that state law (GA) was the reason.

Interesting. Since autism generally doesn't present itself until a child is a toddler or later, how, pray tell, does a neonatal care worker spot it in newborns? She should publish a paper... this could be groundbreaking news!

When our son was born a couple of years ago, our hospital also put heavy pressure on us for this vaccination. When I asked about risks they said there was a very slight chance of health problems after vaccination and deaths were extremely rare.

When I asked why the vaccine was necessary they said it was to protect the infant if the mother had Hepatitis B. The fact sheet they gave us said risk groups for Hep-B were injection drug users, homosexual men, sexually active heterosexuals, and infants/children of immigrants from disease-endemic areas. Since it is primarily a disease of junkies, gays, and promiscuous heterosexuals, to me, it was a no-brainer. Why expose the infant to anything above zero risk when there was absolutely no chance the mother would have it? They still pressed us but I refused to sign the consent form because there was no rational or logical reason to do so.

A few months later, our pediatrician admitted that the hospitals are under pressure from the CDC for 100% vaccination of newborns. He convinced us that it would be a good idea to have it done before the child was exposed to other children at daycare or school, but he agreed that it was an unnecceary risk for the vast majority of newborns.
