If you live in Buffalo, NY and a armed person breaks into yourhome, don't expect
any timely response from police when there's 7 feet of snow on the ground.

Best person to rely on to protect your life is you...oh and a .45 colt...hehe

The current focus on homeland security has a growing number of Americans reevaluating their stance on personal safety and on the Second Amendment.

I'm glad to say I needed no such re-assessment in the wake of 9/11, at least concerning firearms, and felt no need to make any new acquisitions. But I'm glad others did so. I did help a friend make a selection.

I imagine I'm similar to many FReepers with regards to the above. I certainly hope so.

I'm glad to say it didn't change things at our house, we were always in favor of defending ourselves and teaching our boys about guns.

What I've been enjoying is how the whole country seems to have been waked up to the need to be vigilant and defend themselves. The stupidest thing a person could do these days is cause a disturbance on an airplane, he would get beaten to a bloody pulp within minutes. It's a wonderful thing to read about! Maybe the sheep aren't sheep after all.

To assume that no one needs more than one gun is outrageous and shortsighted.

Guns are tools. You pick the right one for the particular situation. A .22 cal rifle is fine for rabbits but totally useless for a black bear. A .223 rifle is just perfect for a coyote, but leaves a rabbit spattered all over the place. A .308 is a fine caliber for deer, but a bit under powered for a bear. A 45-70 is more appropriate for a bear or moose.

A law enforcement official can openly carry anything that is comfortable and effective (and authorized by his/her department). Concealed carry demands something comfortable to carry all day long, quick to access and effective when needed and fully concealed. The tradeoffs are influenced by the nature of the threat, the weather (clothing), the size and the gender of the person. One size does not fit all.

Right on, there's all kinds of stories out there about people buying guns and getting CCW permits in record numbers. I hope Sarah Brady is having a nervous breakdown.

I took my formerly anti-gun cousin out shooting and he loved it! We shot my .357 magnum revolver and my dad's .30-06 rifle. People fear what they don't understand. After 9/11, he had some second thoughts about owning guns. My dad and I took him shooting and he had a blast (pardon the pun). The way things are going, he's going to go buy his own handgun real soon. Any advice?

I was amazed when after 9/11 the profoundly anti-gun Miami Herald printed my seven paragraph pro-gun, pro 2nd Amendment letter to the editor. I have had so much positive feedback on that letter, it's incredible. As an NRA certified Firearms Instructor, I can tell you that my own meager business in this area has taken off! I don't even advertise. Strictly word of mouth and handing out business cards. I'm getting phone calls that go like this:
"Hi...I was standing behind you in line for the grocery store like...uhhh...TWO YEARS AGO and you gave me your card...and ummm...I was wondering when I could schedule a class for me and my wife....." INCREDIBLE.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. Terrorists won't strike where there are tons of cops or soldiers around...not a personal strike where they're shooting the place up and lobbing grenades. But they see our population as "sheeple" soft and wimpy. In about 80% of cases today they'd be correct.

But I maintain that someday soon...one or more of these so called "sleeper cells" is going to activate and go postal in a shopping mall and the cops won't stop them...it'll be some sleepy eyed little family man with a CCW and a cocked and locked .45 that simply shuts them down from within a 21 foot radius.

Purchase restrictions are another Constitutional abomination. If a family decides to exercise a most important Constitutional right, just how does a family acquire the appropriate number of handguns, shotguns, and rifles, in an emergency? Citizens who let their state legislators enact laws in the face of Constitutional rights ought to be ashamed, and change their legislators.

We are all on the front in this WWIII.

Aggressively attack invaders; act on your own initiative; regard any surrender broadcast or announcement as enemy propaganda; resist to the end.
