Continental Flight Diverted to El Paso Due to Unruly Passengers

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Los Angeles was diverted to El Paso on Tuesday because of two unruly passengers, officials said. Flight 627 left Houston at 11:50 a.m. and landed in El Paso at 1:43 p.m., said Roland Herwig of the Federal Aviation Administration.
"There were actually two unruly passengers on board the aircraft and as a precautionary measure the plane was diverted to El Paso," Continental spokeswoman Julie King said.
King said the 757 resumed its flight to Los Angeles shortly after it landed.
She said she had no further details, and there were no immediate reports of any injuries.
Officials the El Paso International Airport, including the airport police department, did not return telephone calls placed by The Associated Press. AP-ES-12-25-01 1553EST
Since this case involves a married couple, that's all it was I'm sure. Unless they're a Middle Eastern married couple that is....
Items still legal to carry on an airplane include metal pens, pencils, personal electronic devices with metal antennas and any number of items made of glass that could be broken into very sharp shards. Of course any fool trying to take over an airplane with an edged weapon deserves the near fatal beating he will undoubtedly get.
Post-9/11, if it is reported to be two drunk college students, there will be at least a dozen people on this forum who claim it's a cover up.
Yes, it has to be a cover-up....I'll bet it was Amy and whats that other girls name. Or Snake Carville and Warren "middle-ages" Christopher
Haha ... actually I'm here in Los Angeles right now so I know anything happens. (grin)
You never know with lawsuits. We know trial lawyers are "lefties" and litigants play on the public's bowing to political correctness. I think some of that has changed since September 11th.
As for unruly passengers (whether they are drunk, obnoxious or otherwise) yes, the airlines do sue and more frequently in recent years. And, from my experience, the airlines usually win.
As for jurisdiction, it's not where the litigant is from but I believe it is where the plane lands. Regardless, I think you and I agree these people need to be stopped. :-)
Merry Christmas!
Not quite. Almost two hours.
Continental Airlines flight 627 left Houston at 11:50 a.m. and made the unscheduled landing at El Paso International Airport at 12:39 p.m.
For the non-Texans, Houston is Central Time and El Paso is in the Mountain Time zone, so that the elapsed time was really 1 hour and 49 minutes.
No way. The airlines solicit people's buisness, and then arbitrarily decide to cuff someone and divert them from their promised (and paid for) destination? I'd sue them into oblivian for contract violation and false imprisonment.
That doesn't give you the right to make a citizen's arrest.
Not as significant as the counter-suit.
SOOOOOOOOO TRUE!
The last enjoyable flight I had was one of the last smoking flights between Sydney and LA at Christmas 1994. By then there were only six rows at the back of economy for smokers, and those of us who got those seats got them five hours before the flight departed.
In the Christmas spirit, we shared our smoking seats with the other half of the 747 who smoked. This meant that at any given time, there were 20 or so people standing at the rear of the aircraft. The sh*tty young United hostie chucked a wobbly, and the senior hostie (from the fine age of flying) finally moved her to the forward cabin and let us continue.
Since that time, flying has become more like a Greyhound bus with wings. Screaming babies, stinky people, and mad Arabs.
Actually, since smoking was banned, there are a lot fewer "stinky" people...
Believe me, the air quality has gotten worse. Because of all the mold and dust coming out of the vents I ended up in bed for almost the whole week of my last trip with asthma attacks and pneumonia. Those weren't any darn dust bunnies and mini molds either, we're talking huge dust and mold monsters.
When I used to fly back and forth from the Middle East, the planes were wonderful, clean, not too cramped, the crews nice and professional, the smoking section a wonderful place with warm friendly people, but now they are as filthy as the air vents are.
I won't be flying when I travel again just due to the non smoking ban. I'm shocked that even international flights are now non smoking! Guess I won't be taking any overseas trips either for the rest of my life unless they start up an airline where people can smoke.
It'd be interesting to have studies on which flights more people get sick, smoking or on the non smoking, filthy planes with filthy air vents as they are now.
Heck! One time A.S.B. (After Smoking Ban), someone had thrown up in the toliet and no one would clean it up..it was all over that bathroom. We are talking *Filthy* airplanes here.
Dr. Luv, you're just like my aunt. You obsess so much about smoking that it'll kill you in the end. Learn a bit of moderation even in your hate of smoking and smokers, after all, we smokers are managing to tolerate people like you even if just barely.
Plus as one astute lady found when her gravely ill grandson was in Children's Hospital, smokers are wonderful, kind people who aren't afraid to help others and be there for others as opposed to the attitudes of non smokers in her experience at that time. And no, it wasn't because she was a smoker and the non smokers wouldn't have anything to do with her or anyone else in the waiting rooms because of that.
It's just a different attitude between smokers and non smokers.
I do believe it's possible to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, but would you name for me (IYO) some of the recent miralces of God? I'm not trying to flame you, just want to get a idea of what you are talking about.
I am curious - What do you mean by "God's most recent miracles" which are being called "satanic deceptions??
That is so true! And they have been the problem for 50 years. One may be able to count all the churches on one hand in your state that do not subscribe to 501(c)(3). Most church members are not aware that their pastors have muzzled the message by going along with this government intrusion into religion. And it's all done for the love of money and ecumenical greed. A tithe to God is to be a sacrifice, not a tax write-off.
The first thing that came to mind here was the Bush girls are in trouble again.
(before anybody starts to flame me I am joking)
