The President and First Lady entertained a group of children from Boston Elementary School in Arlington, VA. The First Couple shared storytelling duties as the President ended the event with a reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'. The plane that crashed into the Pentagon flew directly over the elementary school on September 11th. Also today, the President celebrated Hanukkah by lighting a 100-year-old menorah on loan from the Jewish Museum in New York. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I agree. # 1 should have been GW, not question about it. Rudy is great but he's only the mayor. GW has had a much greater impact on the world. I hope TIME mag doesn't fall into the same trap. On another thread, I commented that A&E is total showtime, hollywood crowd so they are always going to pick a New Yorker over a Texan. Oh well, I'm sure GW doesn't care so neither should I.

As to the package business...I never said anything about it either but it was the hot topic of one particular thread. Someone mentioned Gore and the package and I nearly barfed! Perhaps we need a better term, eh? In any event, he is looking really good!!

I'm so jealous some of you got to see these events live. Where? On FOX, I suppose. Doubt C-Span will bother repeating them but I will check and report back.

myst....that is the eternal problem, isn't it? What I would like to be able to fathom is how about 90% of the populace approves of GWB, and yet surely some of these same people were part of the polling #'s that allowed Slippery Bill to stay in power. Perhaps your explanation ("shallowness") applies here as well. BTW, why is your stomach turning?

For reasons beyond me he is very popular in his home state so our only real hope is to get a republican majority back in the Senate and at least dethrone him there.

What a good question. In light of the fact that GW and Laura are so popular in Texas, I'm inclined to believe we would have loved them even if they hadn't followed Bubba and the Hildebeast. But still, after suffering through those eight horrible years of the Clintons, there's no doubt we are especially relieved, delighted and overjoyed now, and probably appreciate the Bushes even more than we otherwise would have!

when the twins were little, George used to read to them from a book called "Hop on Pop." And when they'd get to the line "hop on Pop," that's what the girls would do...bounce up and down on their dad!

LOL! Our kids did the same thing when Sir SuziQ read that book to them!

Isn't it great having a couple in the White House who actually spent TIME with their kids while they were growing up, and have the memories of those fun times. I think x 42 and #97 would be hard pressed to come up with any stories about Chelsea in the same vein; they were too busy trying to climb that political ladder!

I don't believe, however, that it is just the juxtaposition of honest and criminal, good and bad. I submit that, in the grand scheme of things, President G.W. Bush is going to be ranked as one of the best presidents in our history.

I totally agree kate. I believe that because of his strength, conviction, moral leadership, innate ability to make the right decisions quickly and to stick by them, and ability to rally people behind him, he will be judged by history to be among the best.

And if he keeps this up, he's going to replace Lincoln as my #1!!

I think the knowledge that we came so close to losing it as the Dems tried to finagle their way into the WH, that we are going to be EVER grateful that Dubya and Laura held firm and triumphed!

I think you're right. The absolute elation, and total euphoria that I'm still feeling after 10 months is because I felt like I was literally being dragged through hell during the clinton years (and I don't say that lightly).

The respect and admiration would have been there in any case, but the pure, unadulterated JOY, is because of what we were forced to suffer through.

Speaking of polls, the most recent one out (by Newsweek) shows Bush at his lowest level of approval (82%) since 9/11. Don't know if the fall off is real, and if it is a response to the Dems attack that started last week. 82% is still a great number but I don't like to see any decline, especially at the hands of Carville et al

LOL....my stomach is turning because of 8 yrs of Clinton followed by the election of Hitlery, followed by the fall in the stock market, followed by the election fiasco that went on and on and on, followed by the partisanship of the Senate, followed by the terrorists, followed by the anthrax, and in anticipation of whatever bs is next!

As for the Clinton polls? I never believed them. In fact, I think everything about those people was a media setup. The first time he was elected.....maybe. But by the next time the only people I know who really voted for him did so because of the economy. The people I knew who actually liked him were too ignorant to find their way to the polls. There is just something about that whole era that makes me very suspicious about the reality of the elections. You will never convince me that a whole lot of those votes were not dead people.

ohiowfan, your words "absolute elation" and "total euphoria" sum up my feelings on Inaugeration Day this year. Oh the joy, especially after the FL fiasco, to see our guy up there on that stand being sworn in. For days afterwards I'd just think of the swearing in and get a rush of joy! I only wish I'd known of freerepublic back then to share the experience with like-minded folk.

Rudy has been outstanding in rallying NY since 9-11 while Dubya has been waging a war to save our Western Civilization from the malovent agenda of Islamic fanatics!! Dubya should have been Numero Uno!
