ohiowfan, your words "absolute elation" and "total euphoria" sum up my feelings on Inaugeration Day this year. Oh the joy, especially after the FL fiasco, to see our guy up there on that stand being sworn in. For days afterwards I'd just think of the swearing in and get a rush of joy! I only wish I'd known of freerepublic back then to share the experience with like-minded folk.
Exactly! Exactly!! That dreary day in January was the brightest day in the year (make that eight years)!! And, hopeless Romantic that I am, those Inaugural Balls, and watching the new President and First Lady dance in each other's arms, literally took my breath away!!
(My husband and I actually discussed what might be going on in the WH later that evening!!
We've been married 25 years.....we knew!!)
And that's when I found FR, and lurked until I couldn't stand not sharing in the joy here!!
(Addiction followed shortly thereafter!)
I know that many of you are familiar with the ATRW (America the Right Way) thread. Up until 1/20/01, that thread was called USA v. x42 (well, actually that's not precise but I really hate typing the name) and ran for about 3 years.
I have the thread for Inauguration Day bookmarked. Now, I'll warn you, I have about a million bookmarks but just scoot on down to the U's and you'll find the one for Day 0.
Another warning .... there were graphics, cartoons, and such that were linked from newspaper websites. When you go back to the thread, what shows up is current pics and graphics ..... not the ones from that day. So don't freak out and think that newspapers were predicting the death of OBL or anything ..... LOL! I hate that it works that way ..... the stuff that was posted was really great.
For any of you who are new and don't know how to find someone else's bookmarks ..... right click on my name at the end of this post and choose Open in New Window. My profile page will appear with my bookmarked threads on the left .... scroll w-a-y down towards the end of the list to find USA v x42 Day 0.
Btw, I also have a number of threads bookmarked since 9/11. I wised up and started preceding the titles of the threads with WTC so they would all be together. There are some excellent pictorials there.
