North Korea Accuses United States of Provocation, Saying It's 'not Afraid of War'
Associated Press | Dec 8, 2001

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea accused the United States on Saturday of trying to start a war against the communist state, and said it will respond to war with war.

Saturday's statement came after President Bush issued a fresh warning last week to Iraq and North Korea that there would be consequences if they produce weapons of mass destruction. Bush demanded that the North allow U.N. experts to inspect its suspected nuclear weapons program.

The North's Stalinist regime regularly issues strident, hardline statements against the United States.

Bush's demand reflected an "attempt to provoke a new war of aggression against the (North)," Minju Joson, a state-run North Korean newspaper, said in a commentary.

"The Korean people and the People's Army do not want war but are not afraid of it," it said. "Now that the U.S. makes desperate efforts to unleash a war of aggression against the Democratic People's Republic of (North) Korea, it is fully ready to react to the war with a war of justice."

The commentary was carried by the North's official foreign news outlet, KCNA, which was monitored in Seoul.

North Korea has escalated its anti-U.S. rhetoric after Washington deployed more fighter jets to South Korea last month to fill in for a U.S. aircraft carrier that left the region to support the American military campaign in Afghanistan.

The North has also ignored Bush's offer in June to open dialogue aimed at curbing North Korea's missile and nuclear programs and its massive deployment of troops near the border with South Korea.

The Korean peninsula was divided into the communist North and pro-Western South in 1945. The 1950-53 Korean War ended without a peace treaty, and the two sides are still technically at war.

That`s what the Tali-Dummies said. And Japan, and Germany twice, clear back to 1776. If N.Korea wants to be next, then so be it.

First it was the Taliban threatening to "fight to the death", now the Commie Koreans are "not afraid of war". Can America fight a war of empty rhetoric on two fronts? I think so.

That's a good quote to remind them of once the Blackhorse cav and the rest roll their Abram's through main square Pyongyang. Or repeat it to them when the artillery is falling around their little monkey heads....

Check out www.fas.org. Resources on this site indicate that the strong US suspiscion is that DPRK has enough plutonium for up to three twenty kiloton warheads but that they have not built them. There is a freeze on nuclear development that DPRK seems to honor. However, during the Clinton years there was little if any verification. That is why Bush has recently insisted that DPRK allow inspectors back in.

The Korean people and the People's Army do not want war but are not afraid of it,...

This is political posturing that seeks to provoke the US into war and to claim victimhood because of the US. In fact it follows Saddam's rhetoric of hiding nukes and leaking information of possession of nukes, so that the US be tempted to attack without a clear proof of whether there is a real threat there.

Evil always seeks to preserve not to destroy. North Korea would not wage a war but seek to isolate the US. It partialy successfuly did that when South Korea's liberal Kim stunningly criticized the US for not funding North Korea. This is as if Israel said that America is to blame because it does not give enough funds to the PA, making them starve and short changing them. It's an astounding reversal of political clout for the US in Korea - because of the Clintonist traitor in the South who is seeking or got his peace prize.

I just love it when hard-line communist countries insist on calling themselves "democracies". Stalin's version of democracy is anything BUT democratic.

On another note, the guy sounds scared. Good.
