Quite= quiet? Drove a Mercedes gullwing "many" years ago. You couldn't hear any noise outside, like it was soundproof - and soooooo smooth. It is the FINEST car I've driven, by far.

Heyyy, that's hardly fair - going metric and all. I remember the first time I drove on the QEW - speed limit 110, the sign said. "Hang on, baby," I said. "These Canadians finally got something right!"

'Course, the OPP guy I passed a few miles later was less than amused. ;)

Please translate that into "World's only remaining Superpower" speed.

The "BIG" bikes from Suzuki and Kawasaki have limiters on them so they won't go over 300KPH! The EU threatened to ban the sale of the bikes altogether if the restrictors weren't incorporated into the bikes... Even so, 300KPH, or 186MPH is plenty fast for a motorcycle, right off the showroom floor... The previous year, the same bike without the limiter was tested by a magazine at a hair under 200MPH (321KPH) top speed!

The biggest problem with going that fast is that the tire technology simply isn't safe enough at those speeds. Heck, a few years ago, during tire testing at Daytona, there were a number of "catastropic tire failures" (read that as the tires exploded) on 2 riders, one at about 187 MPH, and the other at about 195 MPH! And those were special race tires, designed specifically to be run at Daytona! Not street tires that are "Z" rated!
