I published this a while back, but it was deleted.
So....
What is the fastest you have ever drive? I had my little Honda over 100 mph near the PA-WV border.
I do not condone speeding, and I am sure FR does nor either.

Those Rivieras were fast as anything but had a scary suspension. I heard that putting a load of bricks in the trunk helped, but slowed the car down.

His comment in the paper when they arrested him was along the lines of what's the problem officer? The cars were performance machines and he was just stretching their legs for the new buyer. What's the problem? He probably was.:-) That Lamborghini(sp) is just cruising at that speed.

135 mph in my dad's 1961 Chrysler 300 on a runway at Dullis International Airport before it was opened. (At least that is what the Spedometer said.)

Once I did 138 mph in a red 73 Mustang Mach One. Had a 351 Cleveland motor, and a four speed manual of course. This was on the John Belk Freeway (known to locals as the John Belk
Speedway). The road runs
through Charlotte, but you can get get run over if you're not doing 85mph in rush hour.
I wasn't impaired at the time, just incredibly stupid and younger. Man, it sure was fun at the time, though.

1970 Torino Cobra Jet (429), 160 mph, 4 lane Highway 90 between New Orleans and Raceland, 2:00PM, running side by side with a tan Camero of unknown origin, took about 5 miles to pull a car length ahead of him, somehow survived the "live fast, die young" stage of my life.

Glad you lived to tell about it. I'm surprised there wasn't a class action suit against GM.

Try 280. Wide and empty. I did. In 1970 or 71 while it was really empty (those were the days). My 66 E Type Jag got up to 110 mph before my wife's screams slowed me down.

I've been called RG since I started driving. I can't help it...driving is just an adrenalin high, so is skiing downhill fast, flying airplanes, scuba diving, men (he he).. but none as much as driving fast.

Really officer, it's easier to rotate the tires this way.

My fine was $1200. WOW!!! Was that the calculated fine for ....$$$ for every mile over the limit? Too bad you stopped in CA for Nevada would not have been so severe. Bet you were in the wide open spaces. Bummer.

Please translate that into "World's only remaining Superpower" speed.

Y'all need a trip to Germany...no speed limits on autobahn! I maintained 100 mph for a week! In a rentaVolks! I was passed every minute by guys in Mercedes who made my Volks look like it was standing still.

Age 19 & passenger at up to 230 kph, which is over 130, or so I understand here. Spent a glorious night at a chateau in Belgium, and the petite cherie's MOTHER rode me home in the a.m. -- In her 911. The trees were like a picket fence, and I just remember seeing that needle climb to the top and peel downward to the bottom of the dial. All told, it was an interesting weekend.
From the drivers seat, probably 115, 120 in my '86 Mustang LX 5.0. Didn't trust it above that, but the fun was in traffic surfing, not sheer speed. Hit about 90 in Central Park. The best event was making NYC-DC, chasing some girl in a 5.0 GT. We hit I-495 in an hour & a 1/2. It was some unreal driving, and this chick was insane. Most passing was done on one or the other breakdown lanes. I just ignored the intermittant buzzing of the car-condom, but no one chased us, anyway.
Btw, Nicollo is keeping notes on the topic for a book on the history of speeding. It'll start with Willie K. Vanderbilt, the Grand Scorcher, the man who was so fed up with cops, bail, and dumb-ass, lecturing magistrates that he went and built his own road. Ever hear of the Long Island Parkway?
Anyone who wants to share more, please flag or freepmail. The project won't be done for two more years, as there's another book meanwhile, but it's a go. Love this thread!

I think the fine had more to do with the distance he had to chase me! He clocked my speed at 126 when I went sailing past him. Therefore, he could not have cited me for 126 mph for the entire "drive" so to speak!
No, I was NOT out in the wide-open spaces. A two-lane divided highway; many curves, many hills. The time of day saved me (I think) 5:30AM --- no traffic, except for the thirteen or so trucks I passed, crossing the double line each time I passed a truck. THAT alone, should have nailed me for wreckless, but, of course the cop couldn't prove it --- he was so terribly far behind me! And he had to pass the trucks himself!
I would make the drive every other week. I knew the road like the back of my hand. I did not have a death wish. I was merely running a little late that morning!

I can believe that you were driving safely. With driving, one either understands or they just don't get it. Speed doesn't kill, it's wrecklessness, lack of attention, .... no need to expound, for you know.
I'm so sorry you lost your license. Can you get it back now?

Wow, I guess I win...so far. I took my 1980 Stossek I Porche 928, with a remodified body, lowered, widened, retooled and not to mention the wopping 400 hp under the hood up to a cool 335 Kph, (209 Mph), with the engine running at 6800 Rpm, on a clear night on the Autobahn from Hannover to Hamburg, Germany. What a RUSH! The car lowered over 2 inches closer to the road under the force of excelleration, and looking in the rear-view mirror you could see the huge whale tail bent nearly in half with the down force.
Not that that is a speed record for the Autobahn, but it is DAMN fast. I probably do have a speed record for normal roads in Denmark (hit 175 mph for extended periods on their small highways), Sweden (180 mph for over 30 minutes at 2 a.m on the highway) and a wild 150 mph in Norway.
My philosphy was their police car Volvo's didn't have chance and my only way of getting caught was either driving up on a cop, (since no one was likely to be coming behind....), or that I stopped when one tried to get me. They never did!
I was young, 23, and stupid. But it was a blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See, isn't it nice to loosen up a bit and talk about some fun times? It provides a brief respite from the insanity in DC. Well, it is 4:13 here in PA and I should be getting ready for wor... OH SHI*()*!!!!!!!
