Advantage: God - Why the Salvation Army beats the Red Cross

The American Red Cross ran up a white flag recently, surrendering to critics who had accused it of bait-and-switch fund raising by planning to hold back more than half of the $543 million it had raised for victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. Officials pledged that just about all of the money (minus $49 million for overhead) would go to the victims for whom it had been given. Red Cross president Bernadine Healy had already resigned from her $450,010 position, but not before suffering a tongue-lashing from Rep. Bart Stupak (D., Mich.). Reporting that some of his constituents had driven to New York City to give the Red Cross a check, Mr. Stupak said, "They expected that check to be used now, not two years from now."

Years ago, Mr. uvular was stationed in Texas (Army), and they went to help out in the aftermath of a tornado. Red Cross was there, and he said they charged the servicemen for coffee and donuts!

I've seen other such stories posted by freepers; would never give 'em a dime.

--it has been reported that homosexual groups plan to hassle the Salvation Army bell ringers this season, due to the SA stand on same-sex pairs. If I was a retired cop or fireman, I'd gather a group of my contemporaries and go see that this didn't happen--

Exactly the same thing happened in France in WWI. The Red Cross was bitterly resented by the troops there. The Salvation Army was beloved. Amazing how little has changed in 80+ years.

That does it for me.I have read way too many articles like this one. I am convinced that the Salvation Army does Gods work. I am putting them at the top of my charity list.

Opportunity Village is a local is a local org. that works with special needs children. They teach them to fit into society, work for a living and even have their own apartment. I have witnessed my friends brother go there and he married a girl and they have a place of their own. It is amazing. He also did very well in the special olympics.

I also give to the Las Vegas Rescue Mission which feeds the homeless. In order to get a meal you must sit through a sermon. I am pretty sure the Salvation Army does that as well. I even got a chance to witness there once with some of motorcycle riding buddies.

I was in Grand Forks ND for the flood in 1979 --not the later one which made national news, but what was then, the third highest crest on record.

Salvation Army field units saw that those of working the dikes and walking inspection tours in the middle of the night were fed well and had hot drinks. (You never saw a Red Cross Van at 3AM)

A half dozen of us unloaded seven semi loads of sandbags in the rain, pushing a bulge out of a polyethelene liner and reinforcing about 50 yards of dike that night. I don't know whether it would have held otherwise, but the Salvation Army looked out for us.

Later that week, a Red Cross Disaster relief Van collided with my old dodge, he was doing 50+ through a residential section and failed to yield at an unmarked intersection. Totalled my car, and but for the grace of God, would have killed me. I had to fight their insurance company to get 400 dollars out of my car. I never saw the Red Cross people help anyone. (Maybe there weren't enough cameras around).

That was enough for me. Veterans organizations and the Salvation Army get the Lion's share of my charitable donations.

It was only after this, while talkng with friends who were veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, that I heard how the Red Cross sold the servicemen items out of packages folks had donated back in the states.

BTW, does anyone have any stats on which veterans organizations do the most for our veterans. The DAV does a lot around here, but I'm on a lot of mailing lists and I want the money to do the most good.

Non-Christians such as myself continue to support organizations like the SA because they do GOOD WORK. Religion is irrelevant. The Red Cross is a just another corporate vampire. The past presence of Liddie Dole in the RC just proves the point...the Kid.

I'll be visiting with the Salvation Army bell ringers at various stores in the Katy, TX area many times during the shopping season. I sincerely hope that the Sodomites do make it a point to stop by and try to hassle SA personnel, or folks dropping donations in the Kettle.

Please, make my day!

While my uncle was disposing of unexploded shells in England, France and Germany, the Salvation Army was always a welcome site. Compared to the Red Cross, the Salvation Army never charged for coffee, chocolate or other supplies. With the Red Cross showing their true greedy colors lately, I will never give the Red Cross a stinking dime! Go Salvation Army!

Some honesty is in order here. Let's not forget the real name of the "Red Cross" and where donations go: the International Federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies.

:

Red Crescent? Like in Islam? You betcha!
Aren't you thrilled?

Red Cross president Bernadine Healy had already resigned from her $450,010 position

They got Bernadine for a song. As I remember, Liddie Dole got a million a year for her effort.

I was at a conference at a fancy-dancy hotel in St. Louis and in the next conference room was a meeting of the Red Cross. That's why they have to charge people for coffee and donuts, they gotta pay their hotel tabs.
