Chelsea Clinton Feared Bush Tax Cuts as Twin Towers Fell

As the World Trade Center imploded just blocks from where she stood, former first daughter Chelsea Clinton's first fears included the prospect that President Bush's economic program would stymie any rebuilding effort.
"I was worried that with the tax cut we wouldn't have enough money to repair New York and D.C. and to help the families of the thousands I knew must have died," writes the former first daughter in an up close and personal account of the Sept. 11 disaster set to appear in the December issue of Talk Magazine.
Clinton claims she was all alone in nearby Union Square and unable to reach her parents by phone as the disaster unfolded before her eyes.
"We all thought we were literally going to have fire rain down on us. That we were the next target," the former first daughter reveals.
"I truly thought I was going to die," Clinton claims she was thinking, just before she began worrying about the impact of the Bush economic program.
The disaster has rallied young Clinton's civic-minded spirit, and she uses her Talk Magazine screed to rally her generation to public service. "We need to step up and serve in any way we can," Chelsea urges.
Her own war effort, however, will apparently be limited to following the footsteps of her father, who dodged the Vietnam draft from the safety of England's Oxford University.
News that the Bush tax cuts were among Ms. Clinton's earliest concerns on 9/11 follows on the heels of a speech by ex-President Clinton Wednesday that seemed to blame the terrorist attacks on American slavery and the mistreatment of the Indians.

Leave it to a Clintoon to try and turn a tragedy into a soapbox for self-promotion. These f***ers make me sick.

Tina Brown is real proud of publishing Chelsea's writing in her Talk magazine and praises her clarity of mind, but instead of putting Chelsea's picture on the cover she decided to go with a picture of a semi-nude Gwenyth Paltrow. Tina's not as dumb as she sounds.

The only things I didn't dislike about the Clinton presidency were little Chelsea and Sox the cat. Now it's just the cat.

"I even resent -- the theory that America's arrogance... When called to account, she'll simply say she was persuaded by the "greatest communicator of all time," her daddy. (Can't you see Webb, with forlorn face, reaching to her from between the bars, pleading not to make Bill mad at him again?)

"I was worried that with the tax cut we wouldn't have enough money....."Yeah. Those were my first thoughts too when I turned on the TV the morning of 9/11 and saw those buildings smoking.

Now that she is no longer first kid, and she is making "deep" policy pronouncements, I guess the gloves can come off about her looks. If I were her, I would earn a good marketable skill, just to be safe.

You know, the only way to halfway keep the 'toons and their legions of enablers & worshippers out of our faces is to
1- constantly refute their spin with the truth, and
2- keep making fun of them....
BTW, what happened to the "Chel nearly killed while jogging" story?
Have their push-polls & focus groups convinced them that this version is a better story?

In the first paragraph above, Clinton claims she was ALL ALONE..........and in the second paragraph she changes to WE ALL THOUGHT...........which is it????
It's unusual for a Clinton to use anything but I...Me...My..Mine....

Maybe Chelsea was worried that the tax cut might have a negative impact on all the free perks that she and her parents continue to receive at everybody else's expense?!? Oh, there's no chance of that!

Only one thing I'd change. I wish the media and references to 9-11 would be "the atrocities of 9-11" or the like. "Tragedy" doesn't cover it.
Good on you for your post lest you forget.

Are there any psychologists on this site? I would like to know the chances of her actually thinking about tax cuts while being a few blocks from the worst terrorist attack we have ever seen in America. I have seen the faces of the people just a few blocks away. They are filled with terror and anquish and pain.
It doesn't seem like human nature to be thinking about tax cuts - unless she really wasn't just a few blocks away. I think she is just using the platform to knock Bush.. like Mother, like Father, like daughter.

Good point. I wasn't trying to lessen the severity of the attack, though, I just write the way I talk. I do agree with you, however, and will keep your advice in mind.

Good point. How can you tell a Clintoon is lying? Its lips are moving. Don't know why people haven't figured that out.
Sigh.

This shallow girl is a product of her shallow parents. Within hours of watching the World Trade Center towers collapse, she was railing against tax cuts?!? Her parents must be so proud.

Where are the Clintons in this picture? The former first lady looks like they just plopped her on a horse for a photo op. The guy in front of them looks like he might be a Taliban member..They must have been in Afghanistan :-)

The only Fear chelsea should have is about her inherited GENES from her "Parents"???????.
