My wife just yelled upstairs to me that NBC News reports that Mullah Omar, leader of the Taliban, has reportedly been killed.

Can anyone confirm?

A case of wishful and, as yet, unfulfilled thinking?

Apparently someone at MSNBC got a case of happy fingers on the MSNBC ticker. It's been changed to reflect that it was relatives of Omar.

Which isn't to say that Omar is alive and well, either. Nobody has heard from him (that I'm aware of) in the last couple of days, and I'm not sure the Taliban would announce his death for fear of demoralizing the troops facing the Northern Alliance.

But this report is premature at this point.

I asked this in another thread yesterday but got no reply that I know of. How will we know POSITIVELY that these people have actually been killed? Is there a history of fingerprints, DNA, dental records etc. I hope we have a way to prove to the world that we do, otherwise any announcment of their demise will be met with continued skepticism especially in the Islamic world.

KRLA 870 in Los Angeles, Hugh Hewitt's home station, reported a half anhour ago that two of Mullah Omar's brothers were killed in last night's bombing.

No further details.

God, I hope this is true. I won't believe it though until his head is on display hanging from a pike. Wonder if Omar in one of his delusional states decided to turn over Osama and got knocked off instead by his friend OBL? If so then why not blame Omar's demise on the bombs and the Americans? Good excuse since they're all murderers and cowards.
