Temple Mount: Why can't Israel take it?

Posted on 09/25/2001 1:31:33 PM PDT by Doctor Freeze

Maybe a Jewish Freeper can help me understand this...

Why is there a Mosque on the Temple Mount? As a Christian, I have always heard that the Ark of the Covenant used to be located on the Temple Mount (in King Solomon's temple?) and that the rock that Abraham was going to sacrifice Isaac on is on the Temple Mount.

Excuse my ignorance, but why doesn't Israel make it priority number one to retake the Temple Mount? It is holy to us Christians too!!! Thanks for any insight on this basic question that I don't know the answer to.

Muslims, who also claim Abraham as their ancestor, consider it an equally important holy site, upon which stands the Dome of the Rock, a famous mosque. Currently, Israel is in an uneasy coexistence with several Muslim countries. We'd have World War III if they actually try to tear down the Dome of the Rock.

And remember that the tribulation will be ushered in along with the rise of the Antichrist when the temple is rebuilt by Israel. And yes, there will be lots of wars.

According to Islamic belief the Dome of the Rock is built over the spot from which Mohammed ascended to heaven. Now the Israeli government does have military and political control over that spot. If, however, you are seeking to understand the radical Islamic position on this matter it is that the Israelis should ceed all of what was once Palestine icluding all of Israel to Muslim rule. all Jews should leave or be exterminated. The Israelis do not wish to do this.

Thanks for the insight. I thought Israel captured the Temple Mount back in the 40's or 50's. Did they just give it to the Muslims or did the Muslims take it back by force? Do you think Israel will ever attempt to take back this piece of holy land? Are they just waiting for the right time? Thanks.

Personally I believe this narrow line Bush is trying to walk will ultimately fail. The "moderate" muslim governments will fall to the will of their people, who are mostly third world illiterates. We will ineveitably be drawn into a greater conflagration against about 10% of the earth's people, or more. There will ultimatley be only one man that can bring peace to such a troubled world, and part of the peace treaty will include a Temple for Jews in Jerusalem. That man will be the "wrong man". I certainly hope to not be here to see these things happen.

I doubt all the nations of the world would want to stick their noses into such a mess, only the U.S. would maybe Britain.

Good idea. While we're at it, let's help the IRA assasinate Queen Elizabeth, and then ask the British to help us with our little Osama problem.

Okay... so Israel "could" take the Temple Mount by force if they wanted to since they have military and political control of Jerusalem, but they just don't want to 'rock the boat' at this time... especially since so many Muslims want to push them into the sea. One step at a time I guess.

A strictly observant Jew would never set foot on Temple Mount for fear that they would inadvertently trespass on the site of the original Holy of Holies, the site in the first temple where the Ark of the Covenant was kept and where only specially chosen Priests were allowed to attend. As for Muslims, they believe that the same spot where Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac is where Mohammed ascended into heaven.

The Temple Mount and Dome of the Rock are both in Jerusalem, so the Israelis have had control of it since the 1967 war (or maybe, if in West Jerusalem, since inception in '48). I am also a Christian (thx Hal Lindsay), and thought that, in order for Jews to offer sacrifices per Old Testament commands, that this could only be done in the Temple, and the Temple can only be located where Jehovah commanded them to erect it: on the Temple Mount. Maybe some scholars on here know the Bible reference I'm talking about. I don't know how the Israelis themselves could demolish the Dome of the Rock without igniting WWIII in the Middle East. Maybe there will be an earthquake. Maybe I'm wrong and Jewish sacrifices can be offered elsewhere. If we're not raptured out, we'll see....

Israel did take the Temple Mount on June 7, 1967, 1335 years to the day after Mohammed's death. However, 10 days later, on the Sabbath, Moshe Dayan gave the Arabs back, defacto control of the site. While the PA currently performs as 'the management', this is an arrangement made with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

TREATY OF PEACE BETWEEN THE STATE OF ISRAEL AND THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN
October 26, 1994

>>>ARTICLE 9

PLACES OF HISTORICAL AND RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE

1. Each party will provide freedom of access to places of religious and historical significance.

2. In this regard, in accordance with the Washington Declaration, Israel respects the present special role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Muslim Holy shrines in Jerusalem. When negotiations on the permanent status will take place, Israel will give high priority to the Jordanian historic role in these shrines.

3. The Parties will act together to promote interfaith relations among the three monotheistic religions, with the aim of working towards religious understanding, moral commitment, freedom of religious worship, and tolerance and peace.

The Moslems have taken many churches and temples and stuck mosques on top. I would take the mosque and blow it up, and drop a few bombs on Mecca for good measure,

Somebody here came up with (IMHO) some dandy ideas:

First, we saturate that big black rock in Mecca with pig's blood.

Then we scrub the temple mount down to bare rock, so that no evidence of the Mosque remains. The "ruins" are then strewn with the carcasses of dogs and pigs.

I figure every "extremist" will die of a brain embolism when we do this. All the moderates will then become extremists, and we know how to deal with extremists...

That is one of those "Emperor Does Too Have Clothes" types of questions; Never expected to be asked. Like this one:

What do you suppose would be the result if a deranged Protestant with a planeful of fuel crashed into and destroyed the kaaba?

A new Temple will be built when the time is right. Maybe when Russia and the entire moslem world is destroyed during the battle of Gog and Magog Israel will be free to build the Temple.

"As for Muslims, they believe that the same spot where Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac is where Mohammed ascended into heaven"

This, despite the very un-mentioned fact that the Koran never mentions the city of Jerusalem once; nada. The fairy tale about the temple mount and Mohammed is latter-Islam myth. The city has never been a "holy" site to Muslims until the Zionist movement baegan. Then, the Muslims twisted some of their verses in the Koran to mean something entrirely different than what had always been held and "claimed" the temple mount to be thire holy site. Convenient revisionist Muslim history for manipulation purposes against the Jews. Of course the media will never tell you this...and don't bother with the UNhistory channel either.
