Barney Frank says WE CAN WAIT ANOTHER WEEK SO THEY CAN "WORK AS A COMMITTEE" TO CRAFT AN ANTI-TERRORIST BILL THAT ALL CAN LIVE WITH. CONCERNED ABOUT "RELEASE OF INFORMATION" being inappropriately disclosed. Probably worried about his own "exposures".

this bill reads like a fascism wish list. It should, since that is what it is.
Ain't it a damn shame we are having to rely on people like Barney Frank to safeguard our freedoms? Last week it was another leftist NE Dim filling this slot. Where the hell are all the "freedom-loving conservative Republicans" on this crap, and why aren't they speaking out?
As far as that goes, somebody please explain to me how creating another cabinet position is "reducing the size and power of the federal gooberment"?

What is the point of a National ID Card if millions of illegals are left in the country and millions more will be sneaking in soon with no real attempt to stop them? Just another attempt to screw the regular people while ignoring the lawbreakers. This whole situation will be used for all kinds of mischief, with the best of intentions(on the surface at least)being claimed.

Conyers and Franks are trying to be troublemakers. "TROUBLEMAKERS"? For speaking out to guard our rights to privacy and other freedoms?
They have an agenda.
And what would that be,to subvert and corrupt us by helping to keep us free?

I am for passing temp measures and working on extended measures later.</I? Temperary measures like the federal income tax? Gooberments NEVER seek less power, only more. Any measures adopted will be permanent. Count on it.

I am fully aware that it was after it happened. My point is even with the same restrictions, with a delayed placement of the government due to the election fiasco, with the turmoil in the Congress due to Jeffords, with all the screaming abount loss of civil rights, with the economic mess, Ashcroft and crew achieved 1000% more than Reno and her bunch did in EIGHT years. The closest they could come through all the attacks during their eight years was it was bin Laden. I am in favor of giving not only the FBI but also the CIA the tools to do their job.

Thanks for the link. I need to read the proposal in detail, but it does not seem to really spell out what the increased powers of government would be, and I believe that it is just wrong about the current state of the law.
I take great comfort in the fact that the Supreme Court, led by Justices Scalia and Thomas, would without doubt declare these laws to be unconstitutional, if it should come to pass that by some disastrous turn of events Congress should pass them and President Bush should sign them.

As I told Miss Marple on another thread some of the comments by people on here today are amazing. I don't see where my civil rights are violated in any way. I have seen posters names I have never seen on here before posting that the RATS are protecting our civil rights -- give me a break. The law needs to be changed now that they can tap a particular person not just their landline phone.
Can you explain to me their reasoning? I sure can't figure it out. It is like we have been invaded right here on FR with people spouting the RATS are protecting us -- that will never happen in my lifetime! The time I end up on the side of Conyers and Frank, I know I am wrong!
And for the person that doesn't think they are socialist, give it a rest -- that information has been posted on here plenty of times!

Think of it like this....the NEXT administration will inherit the laws passed by THIS administration. Can you just SEEEEEE the fun Hitlery would have with THESE laws?
*SHUDDER!!!!*
These laws will NEVER be repealed, only added to. While you agree with the people THIS particular administration might choose to go after with these taps. How about who Hitlery and Bubba would choose to tap?

"Frank is doing his job, and truly protecting the people of this Country, but that seems to escape you." I thought Barney Frank's job was to pick up young male hookers and allow them to use Federal Resources and his own House as a Gay Bordello...same guy, right?
Also the same guy who fought soooo shamelessly to allow a multiple Felon/Rapist/Traitor/Tyrant to retain his seat in the White House...believe me, I don't need this twit "protecting" me or mine!!
SHEEESH, Newbies!!
LOL...MUD

Considering Mr. Frank's reputation I can understand his need for extreme privacy. However, his party leaders should lean on him to ease up. Surely he can give up the lifestyle and all it implies for awhile, or at least write emails and snail mail and stay off the phone. We are all going to have to make some sacrifices.

right. And so far it seems to be working. National ID cards, etc.

Well-said, PKMom. I'm with you.
