Now Pat says we were asking for it. I'm glad I don't have to share a foxhole with that turncoat. He'd be the first one trying to talk everyone into surrendering.

There is no vital American interest at risk in all these religious, territorial and tribal wars from Algeria to Afghanistan. Let us pay back those who did this, then let us extricate ourselves. Either America finds an exit strategy from empire, or we lose our republic. The authentic voice of "Mr. Two Percent" showing yet again why he and his kook supporters have been totally marginalized in the world of politics.
No American interest, huh? An armed, fanatical group of people determined to bring down our entire country and way of life doesn't qualify, I guess.
What a yutz.

Pat lost his mind years ago. No one of any import takes him seriously anymore.

Calm, reasoned discussion has no place in this forum, huh? Perhaps, you need to read this, if you can:
In his intervention in Lebanon's civil war, President Reagan made a rare blunder. But when our Marines were massacred, he did not send a mighty army to avenge them. He used U.S. power to exact a price, then extricated us from that war. There is no vital American interest at risk in all these religious, territorial and tribal wars from Algeria to Afghanistan. Let us pay back those who did this, then let us extricate ourselves. Either America finds an exit strategy from empire, or we lose our republic.

Here's some calm reaosned discussion for you.
We are not "empire building" in the Middle East. We have vital, national interests in that part of the world because we get most of our oil from there. We also have an interest in supporting democracy wherever it tries to establish itself.
Islamic terrorists are at war with us and everything we believe in. It's a matter of national interest and self-preservation. We have no intent or desire to establish an American "empire," as Pat constantly proclaims.
In short, he's wrong from the beginning. Sounds like a good title for his next book.

It's not calm and reasoned. It's treason. He needs to knock off this "America was asking for it" garbage while we mourn the loss of American lives.

It may help to engage your brain when you read - you'll realize that Buchanan didn't say what you suggest. There appear to be a number of Bush fanaticals on this thread - the combined brain power is underwhelming.

Our very shores have been struck now in retaliation. Do Americans really want the American mainland to be the new extension of the Mideast warzone? So it is your contention that if we now withdraw from the Middle East and "take no sides" in the conflict there that we will never be a target of a terrorist act again?
