Missouri State Representative Anthony Ealy, Jr., was arrested on Wednesday after being reelected.
According to the incident report, just before 11:30 a.m., police were called to an apartment in Jefferson City, Missouri, after it was reported that Ealy had trespassed and threatened a woman and her husband.
The report says Ealy threatened the woman’s husband – saying something about a gun then telling him “I’m going to kill you.” The Jefferson City Police Department said multiple witnesses reported a man yelling and causing a scene outside a nearby business.
Ealy appeared to be having a panic attack and mental health crisis, according to the incident report.
The report also notes that Ealy had allegedly done the same thing the night before. The woman’s husband plans to press charges for the threats that were made, the incident report says.
The Cole County Sheriff’s Department recommended he be charged with fourth-degree assault and disturbing the peace. On Thursday, Ealy was formally charged with the aforementioned crimes.
Ealy is a Democrat representing Jackson County’s District 36 in the Missouri House of Representatives. He’s a licensed attorney and the managing partner of Ealy Law, Notary & Consulting, LLC.
The 32-year-old was first elected in 2022, and Ealy is the first Black representative for Grandview – and the youngest representative for the district as a whole, according to the state’s website.
Ealy was reelected on Tuesday, with 68% of voters choosing to reelect Ealy.
Rep. Ealy asked not to run for reelection According to the chief of staff for House Democratic minority leader Ashley Aune, Rep. Ealy was removed from all committee assignments last spring so he could focus on personal matters he was addressing.
The chief of staff also said there were no plans to reinstate his committee assignments for the 2027 legislative session. Additionally, House Democratic leadership asked Ealy to consider allowing someone else to run for the seat before he announced his reelection bid. However, Ealy chose to run again.
FOX4 spoke with someone who witnessed the incident on Wednesday. That witness said Ealy disrupted a family making funeral arrangements and made quite the scene – upsetting those grieving a family member who had died tragically.
“It was definitely a scene; it was pretty chaotic,” the witness said.
The Jefferson City Police Department said officers spoke with multiple witnesses who corroborated the reported disturbance and threats that were made.
The witness FOX4 spoke with encouraged Ealy to resign and get the help he needs.
Ealy appeared in front of a judge on Friday morning for his arraignment, and is still being held at the Cole County Jail without bond.
FOX4 has reached out to Rep. Ealy’s office for comment, but we have not yet received a response.

I’m sure the arrest raises his cred and “authenticity” with his base.
OMG!! He’s Black!! I am SHOCKED!
The long arm of the law reaches out. Perhaps simply being elected to a position in the legislature is not enough to provide total immunity. FA, FO.
Looks like this individual may have a number of emotional problems which negatively impact on his approach to life.
All of the DemonRATS have gone knuckin’ futs. Thieving criminals.
“Here come da judge! Here come da judge!”
I wonder what really happened.
“panic attack and mental health crisis”...”done the same thing the night before”
Take the mentally ill individual at their word. Defend and eliminate the threat as the situation warrants. It’s YOUR life.
The necessary consequence of man’s right to life is his right to self defense. In a civilized society, force may be used only in retaliation against those who initiate its use. All the reasons which make the initiation of physical force an evil, make the retaliatory use of physical force a moral imperative. - Ayn Rand
If he was a Republican his party affiliation would have been the third word printed.
Across so many levels “The Best and the Brightest” is definitely a thing of the past.
First word: "Republican representative.....". Then repeated frequently throughout the article.
“mental health crisis” That’s one way to put it. Both R and D have problems. Most can function despite their problems. A few can’t.
But we expect more of R than D and we should. We have a higher standard for those who represent us.
Why did you capitalize “black?”
“Missouri State Representative Anthony Ealy, Jr., was arrested on Wednesday after being reelected.” Out for a celebration?
Is he out yet with his firearm returned?
Across so many levels “The Best and the Brightest” is definitely a thing of the past.
Isn’t that the truth?
I certainly respect his authority now.
He also resembles the “That’s racist” kid all grown up.
What a douche.
Good catch.
