Could Texas turn blue? Senate race puts nearly 40-year Democratic drought to the test

HOUSTON — Could Texas really turn blue? This year’s U.S. Senate race is testing whether Democrats can win a seat the state has kept in Republican hands for nearly four decades. Democrat James Talarico is facing Republican Ken Paxton in a contest that has renewed attention on Democrats’ chances of winning statewide. Texas last elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate in 1988, when Lloyd Bentsen won reelection. A Talarico victory would end that 38-year drought.

And guess what: in the 2014 midterms, the Republicans gained seats in the House, Senate, and Governorships.

In the 2022 midterms, it was much more even, with Dems getting a net gain of one Senate seat and two Governorships, while the GOP gained 9 net seats in the House.

As a rebuttal, your point LITERALLY does not matter.

There is a definitive cause to the high gas prices that can be laid directly at Trump's feet: his decision to launch unilateral strikes on Iran (at Israel's advice and against the advice of his own counsel), thus resulting in the Strait of Hormuz (one of the biggest shipping lanes in the world, and one of the most important for energy transit) locking down tight for months on end.

Nobody cares that Biden and Obama may have had higher gas prices when accounting for inflation; they care that gas prices are higher now than they were at the beginning of the year. And everyone can point the finger at Trump, and justifiably so.

It's as simple as that.

That seat’s gone for more than 6 years. With a 6 year jump on ‘34 do you think Talifreako’s gonna screw up? Our candidates look old, fat, and tired. The younger generation is coming down with Stockholm Syndrome. Reagan said we’re only one generation away from losing our freedoms. It’s sad because none of Trump’s lieutenants will be acceptable in 2 years. Think HHH following up LBJ.

We just might have to turn to Rand Paul.

It’s a freaking mess and people are tired of it.

Electing Dimocrats will only make things much worse. But if voters are that stupid, they'll have to learn their lesson the hard way.

I think you’re gonna find a lot of big businesses moving out of a blue Texas. Texas will become another welfare state.

C’mon, bro. It is just the metrosexuals inside urban squalor. Come out to the country. We are still free. For now.

they care that gas prices are higher now than they were at the beginning of the year.

If they think gas prices are high now, wait till the Rats start enacting their "green" policies and force people into solar and wind.

Blame gas & food prices. People see those often in everyday living. But if voters think Democrats will make gas cheaper they are going to be badly disappointed.

“Housing costs and property tax went through the roof with the Californian invasion. They changed the political scene. Look at uber lib commie Austin. You can’t pay us to drive into the city limits. Used to be THE place to go shopping, out to eat, the movies, etc. but that ended years ago.”

And which Texas Republican governors were going to California to invite California companies and residents to move to Texas?? Perry and Abbott, those damn fools.

Texas NEVER has passed on reelecting incumbent Senators.
Texans aren’t stupid.
Seniority is power, and Cornyn would have walked away with 2026.
Far as the forced-down-our throat candidate’s concerned, not sure what you saw un the gosh-awful ads, but Paxton lived up to his reputation for sleaze, looking like a used car salesman. Yes, Paxton beat C in the primary … the GOP machine worked well, gears greased, primary votes are easy with POTUS pulpit.

Nope. The GOP congress lost this because they would nit fight on President Trump’s side. Massie, especially.

Nope. The GOP is losing because Trump violated Reagan's 11th Commandment.

Trump tried to destroy any Republican incumbent who didn't back him on everything. His ego wouldn't let him do otherwise.

Well, Talarico is ahead by 1.1 million votes. Not even close. The same thing in South Carolina - Trump could have appointed Rep. Ralph Norman to the Graham senate seat but he put Graham’s inexperienced sister in there. She is losing by four points to a liberal in a State Trump won by 58 percent two years ago. My view is that this was caused primarily by the Iran war which 80 percent oppose and by Trump’s changing his position entirely on the release of the Epstein files.

I think Satan could have a close race with Paxton in Texas. Who the hell thought an adulterer, where the wife left mind you, plus the corruption, was a good choice? The demographics are changing, I would not be surprised if 20% of registered Repubs voted for dems in Texas considering the choices offered.

RINO W Bush had the greenlight to turn Iran into a parking lot but he failed to act, now we’re having to deal with worse.

Wrong.

RINO Bush and MAGA Trump made the SAME Big Mistake. They started unnecessary Mideast wars, derailing their focus from the domestic issues that Americans care about.

And so Bush's America Last foreign policy led to Obama. And Trump's America Last foreign policy is leading us to another defeat.

I am glad someone dared to point this out. I think the Republicans would have held on better if someone had kept Trump from posting on Truth Social.

And yet, here on Free Republic, people were thrilled that Cornyn lost that primary. Cornyn is too liberal for people here.

Welcome to modern American democracy, where we time is a flat circle, and the Right keeps having to learn the same lessons.
