"Americans could pay far more to heat their homes with oil this winter than last, a new analysis reviewed by Axios shows, as volatile energy markets and the Iran War deepen the affordability crisis.
Why it matters: Heating bills are eating into household budgets before winter sets in, with stark divides between fuel types.
By the numbers: Families that heat with oil could pay about 50% more this winter than last, according to estimates from the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (NEADA), up from its 31.3% projection in mid-September.
The average cost of heating a home with oil is expected to rise by about $878, costing over $2,600 this winter. By comparison, the Energy Information Administration's Winter Fuels Outlook released Tuesday projects electricity bills will rise 4% nationally, while natural gas bills will fall 9% and propane spending will drop 3%. EIA expects a smaller increase on heating oil than NEADA, projecting a 21% increase in household expenditures.

The aforementioned will primarily hurt the northeast, but there is good news as well:

Trump Allows Red-Dyed Diesel as High Fuel Costs Hit Consumers
“Trump is allowing tax-free red-dyed diesel on highways as record fuel costs ripple through food, shipping, school buses and other everyday expenses ...
This is supposed to be an El Nino winter..which means lower demand for heating in the Northern Tier of states.
Axios . . . Leftist speculation before the midterms.
This is not Iran but 20 years of DNC war on oil and cars.
I’d pay $20 a gallon for fuel oil vice a liberal POS in Congress trying to outlaw fuel oil.
*** This is not Iran but 20 years of DNC war on oil and cars.

Winner winner chicken dinner
I don’t look forward to my home heating bills. But I very much want Iran to be dealt with. It’s been 47 years of “Death to America” and I want regime change. The Mullahs have to go.
I won’t really mind my heating bills. I will be unhappy if Trump walks away from an unfinished job. Squeeze them until they stop having fanatics in charge.
Considering the source of this article, I thought this might be appropriate.

Dumbassery from Axios swallowed whole (or seen as good demoralization material for negative propagandizing) by some posters on this forum who feel it is a good idea to spread it around.
And who could tell which is which.
Oh, and the outrage “Oh, it is important we know what “they” think...” as if we who aren’t expected to spread Leftist propaganda aren’t awash in it 24x7 and already know exactly what “they” think.
Baloney.
WTI is $89. Oil is cheap.
Natural gas (which has next to no correlation with foreign oil) is cheap and is, by far, the largest source for heating.
Absolute propaganda.
In journalism and media analysis, these terms are often called hedging words, modal verbs, or weasel words. They allow writers to report on predictions, rumors, or subjective interpretations as headlines without asserting them as definitive facts.
1. Modal Auxiliary Verbs (Hypotheticals & Possibility)
These words shift a sentence from a factual statement to a theoretical scenario.
Could (”New Policy Could Cost Billions”)
May (”Target May Close Dozens of Stores”)
Might (”Tensions Might Escalates Next Month”)
Would (”Proposed Law Would Target Small Businesses”)
Should (”Changes Should Spark Consumer Backlash”*)
Correct. Oil is cheap and nat gas is cheaper.
Axios is lying.
We need to put our boots on the necks of the Blue States to reopen the refineries that they shut down for the their green scam. That is what is driving prices up. NOT production, which is near normal production in the Middle East and breaking records in the US. DON’T let the Dumocrats cloud the cause of it. It ain’t the Iran Conflict for long, if ever. BRING BACK OUR REFINING CAPACITY AND YOU WILL SEE PRICES PLUMMET!
This has ZERO to do with Iran.
“The present diesel crunch is a reminder that energy security also depends on refining capacity, inventories, pipelines, storage terminals, shipping routes, and a global network of refineries capable of turning crude oil into the products consumers actually need. When any of those links become constrained, record oil production alone cannot compensate for the shortage.
America does not have a shortage of crude oil. It has a shortage of available diesel. Until global refining output recovers and inventories are rebuilt, those two conditions can continue to coexist.”

Thank you for the info. I was going to ask about natural gas, which heats the vast majority of homes in my area. Now the question is no longer necessary.
Axios is trying to use bills that have not even arrived yet to help the rats in the mid-terms. Never mind the fact that the f’n left inflate heating costs with the climate BS wherever they are in power.
Hey, Axios, Reuters, MSLSD, Bull-BLEEP-ico....
When was the last oil refinery built in the United States?
According to Grok AND Google “the most recent is Marathon’s Garyville, Louisiana, refinery. It began operations around 1976–1977 with an initial capacity of about 200,000 barrels per calendar day and has since expanded substantially (to roughly 617,000 b/cd as of early 2026).””
Both sources point out very small refineries have been built lately, mostly in....yes...... Texas.
Global Warming should be enough to save us, if not we could distribute 200 pound blocks of Dry Ice to everyone so the dissipating CO2 creates it’s own greenhouse effect in your homes.
Axios hates Trump and is hoping for the Socialists to take over the House again in the mid-terms.
My propane tank is filled on a regular basis. FWIW, that hasn’t gone up much at all from one year to the next.
Oh, wait! It’s American made! It’s not shipped in from anywhere. Go figure. ;)
