WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump made use of the newly installed White House helipad for the first time on Monday after a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the South Lawn.
Construction workers lined the new path from the White House residence to Marine One on the South Lawn as the president cut the ribbon and made his way to the presidential helicopter for the helipad’s inaugural takeoff

I like the helipad. It looks very nice. I’m surprised we never had something like that before instead of just landing on the grass.
Well, I don’t know about all that gilding in the Oval Office...I can’t help but think that was done a little tongue-in-cheek.
He said the new Marine 1 was ripping the grass up so he put in a marble helopad. Only Trump would think that out and no longer has to walk in the grass in the rain.
The part of it that is atop the portico is apparently “The Solarium” designed by Calvin Coolidge’s wife. The rest of it is apparently a cover for mechanical equipment, most of which is HVAC, which does make sense.
And Melania’s heels won’t aerate the lawn.
That should help on those rainy, mushy days when he has to use it.
Newer helicopters are now able to use it. Older technology worked for older planes but not newer planes.
The excerpt does not mention that President Trump personally thanked the construction workers assembled there. He is a class act.
