Ticket sales begin today in the United Kingdom, marking the first time a lottery outside the United States will contribute to the Powerball jackpot.
The expansion will debut with Wednesday night's drawing, which features an estimated $567 million annuitized jackpot with a $251.8 million cash value.
Lottery officials say adding players from across the Atlantic is expected to help jackpots grow faster — without changing the game for players in the United States.

The big multistate lotteries have jackpot odds in the 1 in 300 million range. The chances of winning the jackpot are so miniscule that even a microscope would have difficulty detecting it.
You have a better chance of getting into an automobile accident going to buy the ticket than winning the lottery.
I expect the UN will see an opportunity for more graft and set up their own worldwide lottery.
