NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Mick Jagger briefly waded into Louisiana politics, taking a verbal jab at the state’s conservative governor, as The Rolling Stones performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
The band had finished “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” during Thursday evening’s set when Jagger began talking about inclusion, according to New Orleans news outlets. “We want to include him too,” Jagger said of Gov. Jeff Landry. “Even if he wants to take us back to the Stone Age.” Jagger didn’t mention specific policies.
Landry is a Republican who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump. He was the state attorney general before taking office as governor in January. He has supported controversial conservative legislation and causes including a near total abortion ban, a prohibition on gender-affirming medical care for young transgender people and harsher sentences for crimes.
Landry clapped back at the 80-year-old Jagger on social media. “You can’t always get what you want,” he posted on X. “The only person who might remember the Stone Age is Mick Jagger. Love you buddy, you’re always welcome in Louisiana!” Landry, 53, capped the post with #LoveMyCountryMusic.

Mick Jagger Says Singers Should Avoid Politics at Shows After Bruce Springsteen Trashes Trump: ‘Don’t Lecture’ Your Fans

Mick was slamming Bruce Springsteen for going all ‘Bobby-De-Niro’ to his audience, but I vividly recall Mick Jagger saying anyone in England voting FOR Brexit wanted a country run by ‘Lunatics & Clowns’.
Let’s hear some Brown Sugar.
Jagger learned his lesson not long ago when (2024), in Vancouver of all places, he was roundly booed on stage for praising Trudeau
Mick Jagger Booed After Mentioning Justin Trudeau in Vancouver
“Boos rang out from a crowd in Vancouver, Canada, after Mick Jagger made mention of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the Rolling Stones show on July 5. Video filmed by Marcus’ Funhouse shows the exchange at Vancouver’s BC Place.
Speaking to the crowd, Jagger said, “We love your Mr Trudeau. I mean, his family’s always been such big fans of our band.”
The comment drew boos from the crowd.

AP’s tit for tat because Mick criticized one of their favorite liberal dunces.
Mick just don’t have that much jam.
This is from 2 years ago
Can we give Mick a break
He just did a great sit down w Conan
He’s given us many decades of great music. He hasn’t surgically stretched his face into contortions
And he’s quite right, here. He had a chat with a publicist and will stay out of politics now.
“Landry is a Republican who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump”
I hate to break it to whoever wrote this, but Mr. Trump is currently the President. I mean don’t take my word for it, but he could look it up.
It was quite inappropriate that Mick J., of all people stands on stage, extolling the ‘virtues’ of Justin Trudeau.
Certainly, many folks near my age (69.5) remember
that Justin’s mother, Margaret Trudeau was a wild child, while married to Canada’s Prime Minister, and the rumors were that Margaret and Mick had done a lot of ‘private socializing’ after meeting in the Disco.
Mick should have known not to turn THAT rock over. People giggled, but were at the same time disgusted with both Mick and Marg.
the article is from May of 2024 and posted purposely to show Jagger is nothing more than another hypocritical celeb...
Ok.
I’m gonna go out on a limb.
I understand the appeal of the Stones, their place in rock history as the anti-Beatles, and Brian Jones’ influence on others.
But aside a few songs like Bitch, their music is meh.
A few years ago, before a concert the venue played one of the real early recordings of the Stones. It was awful.
Now, to be sure, I saw Mick at Live Aid and he can put in a show. Also, I sort of liked Richards’ solo song Take It So Hard. Finally Ron Wood in the Faces was great.
But I’d rather have the power and volume of the Who, the songwriting of The Kinks, the plagiarism of Zeppelin, the sound of the Dave Clark Five, and George and the Beatles over the Stones any day.
LOL- here are the lyrics from the song Ringing Hollow, just released... F mick jagger- and i would tell him to his face...
ell, I was madly in love with you
Before we ever met
I saw all your movies
I smoked your cigarettes
I drove down your highway
To the mountain top
I spent all my money
Putting quarters in your old jukebox
It’s ringing hollow
It’s ringing deep
It’s ringing loud
And there’s always a scoundrel
Trying to whip up the crowd
What do you think about that?
The clocks never gonna turn back
Lady Liberty don’t look so good
When she’s wearing a frown
And I wandered the cities
And I hit all the bars
I drove through the suburbs
And I lounged in the malls
Let the dreamers get the dream they want
My favorite joke
So pass around the fenty
Pass around the coke
It’s ringing hollow
It’s ringing deep
It’s ringing loud
And there’s always a king
Trying to pick up the crown
But what do you think about that?
They took away the welcome mat
Lady Liberty don’t look so good
When there’s a tear in her gown
And I drove through the desert
With the dust in my face
And I lived outside of Dallas
Rundown shack of a place
I was handcuffed and arrested
It don’t make no sense
Went up to the White House
Shook hands with the president
Well, it’s ringing hollow
It’s ringing deep
It’s ringing loud
When voices are stifled
I wanna scream out loud
Liberty’s not looking too well
She’s got another crack in her bell
Lady Liberty don’t look so good
When she’s wearing a scowl
What do you think about that?
What do you think about that?
There’s no turning back
Buy me a brand new hat

Oh geeze. Mick. Not good.
1000%...
I was also at Live Aid and i’ve seen the Stones live- they are kind to the average ear but don’t hold a candle to Led Zeppelin or a bunch of other bands...
Hearing keith richards, who is an average lead guitarist compared to Jimmy Page (or eric clapton or pete townsend) bash Led Zeppelin is comical....the Stones could never produce a “Kashmir” or “Achilles Last Stand” even in their wildest dreams...
Saw the Stones 1982. Meadowlands
They were just great
The Stoner Age
Yeah, I knew that already. He’s always been a bit of a douche, Altamont really put that on display
,,, it’s so much better when minstrels stay out of politics.
True BUT in 2024 when this happened DJT was former.
