FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino on Thursday brushed off questions about his past claims of a cover up in the case of who planted pipe bombs outside the Democratic and Republican national committee offices a day before the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
When Fox News’s Sean Hannity reminded his former colleague of his past social media comments, Bongino said the FBI was “pretty comfortable we have our guy.”
“Listen I was paid in the past, Sean, for my opinions,” the former political commentator continued. “That’s clear. And one day I will be back in that space, but that’s not what I’m paid for now. I’m paid to be your deputy director, and we base investigations on facts.”

Con Inc confesses.
But clueless Boomers lap up Fox and Talk Radio, regardless
Are we supposed to be upset that he said that? If you did not realize that talk radio folks are just drumming up emotions, you should be careful about what you listen to.
Paid to give his opinions. That is different than being paid to promote a particular opinion/viewpoint.
Not a ambiguous as it looks - grammar is important.
Why was normal progress not made in the investigation?
Or (more likely), if they knew who did it, why didn’t the feds move to indict?
In other words, why should this not be perceived as a cover-up?
of course the media wants to bake a big deal out of this...
he stated before that his opinions were his opinions.
Another media nothingburger.
Turning over more interesting stone arrangements on Comey’s beach could be entertaining.
Is he saying that lied as a podcaster or Fox News contributor because he was being paid to?
Why mention he was paid to express his views unless the source paying was influencing what he said?
The significance is that he’s admitting he mouthed off without regard to the truth because that was his gig.
It certainly doesn’t strengthen his credibility now that he’s got a different gig.
That's not how I took it. When a person gives his opinion about something he is not an insider in, he can only do by so trying to think through the evidence he has on hand at the time. As a news commentator, Bongino could not have all the evidence the investigators had at the time, so his opinion was based on what was publicly available then, which had a lot of loose ends. As he often said, "I'm only asking the question here."
Why not say that instead of mentioning he was paid to give an opinion?
What he's not saying now is that a significant amount of evidence about J6 and Butler was likely destroyed by the FBI under Biden.
Nothing surprising here. Rules of evidence are a heck of a lot different than casually tossing around ideas to chew on.
That is my read as well.
Integrity is something you either have or you do not.
Due diligence is something you either do or you do not....
regardless of your job title.
Et tu, Danno?
Bongino is an admitted liar. Wow.
Knew
before,he wass paid to shoot-from-the-hip, speculate - whereas his FBI job is to deliver substantiated facts for DOJ to use to charge - and no fouling things up by divulging anything that might jeopardize the case.
