Inside a West Philadelphia hair salon Tuesday, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed a law solidifying protections against hair discrimination in the state.
The CROWN Act, which stands for "Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair," prohibits discrimination based on a person's hairstyle, type or texture. Pennsylvania is the 28th state to pass a version of the CROWN Act. "This is a place where the community gets nurtured, and folks get to walk in and walk out looking and feeling their absolute best," Shapiro said. "I think that's noble work."
"Wearing our crown is very important to me," said Lorraine Ruley, who has owned Island Design Natural Hair Studio for 24 years.
Ruley has had lots of clients come to her salon to have their braids taken out or locs cut because their hairstyles were considered "unprofessional."
"'Lorraine, I have to take these braids out. I have a job interview,'" Ruley said. "Or, 'Lorraine, I have to cut my locs down because my job says it's too long."

And yet, Shapiro has fans at FR.
Curse you, Babylon Bee! You got me!
This crown stuff is really stupid. It’s fashion, not a racial characteristic.
How much spending is included in this “Act”? Shapiro is the one doing the acting. As if he gives a flying fig about discrimination. This is a way to spend taxpayer money on frivolous things and we take the bait and get all puckered up over the shiny object. We are so predictable.
As the great Jimmy Carr has observed: "You can't tell a book by its cover. But you can tell its price..."
Not the Bee, it’s See-BS.
We see lots of BS from them!
When will it become illegal to discriminate against us baldies? I have a history being ignored/shunned in bars.
Ah. Thank you. Let’s see what the Bee does with this. Probably just does one of those “we’re not worthy” things.
They had to change the original name of the legislation. The CORNROW Act (”Coercing Others to Respect Noxious Racebaiters’ Obnoxious Whining”) fared poorly in focus groups.
A columnist, I think from American Spectator, was interviewing the Finnish prime minister some years ago. She implied he must lead a fairly peaceful life since Finnland had few of the emotional issues of other countries. The prime minister responded to the effect that when all the important issues are resolved, people have emotional demonstrations about potholes in the roads.
Shapiro obviously has nothing important to do. Or perhaps in his case, nothing important to do that he is competent to resolve.
A special law just for black women.... Seems kind of racisty to me. How many employers really used the excuse of “bad hair” so they didn’t have to hire an angry black woman.
FINALLY taking this seriously.
This is his whole job. Signing off on spending other people's money. The "Act" itself is a smokescreen. It gets us arguing about something inconsequential while they pick our pockets.
Black women will pay no attention to Big Mike.
Female Buddhist monks already have solved the hair dilemma. đ§âđŠČ
Will this apply to small mustache wearers? Chaplin style.
Note, this is for public salons. The way for them and bakeries to avoid complications is to go to a membership only salon.

FR Shapiro fans have to be Democrats, and on FR, they are likely trolls
