Senate Democrats feel confident after Tuesday’s election that they have the advantage over Republicans in the government shutdown battle and are pointing to President Trump’s statement that Republicans are getting “killed” politically as a big reason to stand their ground.
A bipartisan deal hashed out by centrist Democrats and Republicans on the Senate Appropriations Committee to reopen the government as soon as this week now appears stalled after Democrats won sweeping victories in New Jersey, Virginia and California.
Democratic sources say they do not expect a bipartisan deal to reopen the government to be unveiled this week.
One Democratic senator who requested anonymity said that if a small group of Democrats abandon the broader caucus’s position and vote to reopen the government in return for modest or even paltry concessions from Republicans, it would have a devastating effect on Democratic voters’ morale.
“It would be hugely deflating. When your strategy, when something is working, you don’t stop,” the senator said.
The lawmaker acknowledged that “shutdowns are horrible” but argued “the solution is not to pacify the other side,” especially when Democrats feel they are finally getting strong political traction.
Democrats felt elated by the results of Tuesday’s elections.
They won the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial races by 13 and 15 percentage points, respectively.
And they won, by 64 percent support to 36 percent, a California ballot initiative that will allow them to redraw congressional district boundaries and flip as many as five Republican-held House seats.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) said on the Senate floor Tuesday morning that “Democrats won overwhelmingly” and “by more than anyone thought.”

Do not fold now, keep the shut down, make the left and their minority chew and swallow results. No government beats them any day.
Yes, talk to their congressman, in particular if that person is one of the communists that enabled the cutoff of SNAP funding.
My belief is that families that are truly poor have options other than SNAP. By truly poor, I do not mean these over weight big mouthed lefty loonies we see on TV.
In our neck of the woods soup kitchens still exist and some churches offer relief for the truly poor in the community. City and county social services may also have options.
She already gave away about 40 million OF OUR MONEY to help with food banks etc.
I question whether they can get 51 votes to nuke the filibuster

The media will blame Republicans no matter what. Trump should go on tv every night and mention another day of the Schumer Shutdown, and all we need are seven Dems to open the government. Ram it home.
So the communists are gloating because they “won sweeping victories in New Jersey, Virginia and California”. And they can’t reopen the govt because “it would have a devastating effect on Democratic voters’ morale.”
They won sweeping victories in blue states? That’s a big deal? Isn’t that the norm?
And they want SNAP benefits cut off because it would have a devastating effect on their voters morale? In other words they want to see their fellow democrat SNAP users to starve so they can all feel good?
There’s something wrong with their logic here. But then again there always has been something wrong with their logic, it’s called mental illness.
Firing federal civil servants is usually almost impossible. This is a golden opportunity. Why isn’t Trump firing people at the Dept of Education, Dept of Energy, and many other parts of the Executive Branch? He can do it. He said he would do it. So far, how many has he fired? Maybe 100?

Blue states along with their very blue cities is not an election “sweep” but the MSM and their various sycophant websites are still preaching to their own choir. We are starting to see a welcome split between the GOPe and the GOP. At least in my mind.
The GOPe, uniparty, RINOs, deep state, swamp dwellers, elites, back stabbers, establishment, surrender monkeys, turncoats, maoists, assistant democrats, traitors, liars, debt junkies, crooks, thieves, scumbags, republicrats, democrat lite and the democrats at large got us to the point we are in now as the biggest enemy is the congress/senate since the Carter days. $38 TRILLION reasons why this is.
The MAGA party we see now is what the GOP (as we know it) should be evolving too, we’ll see. The XX and XY split among the Gen Z’rs is something to behold, there hasn’t been a split like this since the Age of Mammals. /end morning rant ;-)
The rats didn’t even mention the 2 rats that won their races for esteemed positions on the local water board in a small rural county in Georgia. That certainly spells doom for Trump and MAGA
