Colorado has accused President Donald Trump of unconstitutionally retaliating against the state by ordering U.S. Space Command to move from Colorado Springs to Alabama — punishment, the complaint says, for its mail-in voting system — in a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday.
The state alleges the relocation was politically driven, violated constitutional limits on executive power and threatened billions in economic losses.
Trump announced the move Sept. 2, ending a yearslong fight over Space Command’s home base. The complaint cites him as saying Colorado’s mail-in voting "played a big factor" in his decision.
"The problem I have with Colorado, one of the big problems — they do mail-in voting," Trump is quoted as saying in the lawsuit. "They went to all mail-in voting, so they have automatically crooked elections, and we can’t have that. When a State is for mail-in voting, that means they want dishonest elections".....
The White House pushed back on the criticism, arguing that the decision restores Trump’s initial vision for U.S. Space Command and strengthens America’s defense posture.
"President Trump chose Huntsville to house SPACECOM during his first term – it was Joe Biden who made the politically-motivated decision to relocate the headquarters to Colorado," White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "The Air Force’s merit-based decision of Huntsville is a win for national security and displays President Trump’s commitment to securing the United States’ global dominance.
"This location puts them in the best situation to improve readiness and protect our national interests while providing the necessary infrastructure capacity, community support, cost-effectiveness, and more," Kelly added.
U.S. Space Command, created during Trump's first term in 2018 to oversee military operations in space, was permanently based at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs under President Joe Biden in 2023.

FAFO.
States have a constitutional right to a military base and can order the sole CIC to locate troops there?
I have no doubt a Biden or Obama judge will find such a right in the penumbra of the emanations under Article XXVI clause 27(b)
Maybe “Dirty Jena” Griswold can put a bandaid on this boo-boo for Jared the Poofter. 😉😂😂🤣🤣
How can Colorado be this stupid? The law suit is ridiculous on its face. The military is entirely under the executive branch of the federal government.
My thought as well. Unconstitutional? Uh, no.
They have the Air Force Academy. Let’s spread the wealth around a bit.
Nixon closed the Air Force Base near me because MA voted against him. He also closed the Springfield Armory because MA voted against him.
Fair is fair. And sometimes life sucks.
The Constitution says that all Federal agencies must remain in the states and locations where they are...forever.
Lol.
Clinton closed the Charleston Naval Base and Shipyard because SC voted against him — and then the area has been in decline. Churches that once served the area are gone — including the one that seeded money for the Baptist university in the area. That area near the Shipyard and Base are now slums thanks to Clinton.
“mail-in voting “played a big factor” in his decision.”
So did elevation, hours of daylight, logistics, climate, # of smelly protesters, and number of stray dogs in the streets. So what?
Colorado is being run by moonbats, as everyone knows.
The Founding Fathers wanted our Space Command to be in Colorado. If they didn’t want it, they wouldn’t have specified it in the Constitution.
The Unconstitutional part needs to be mail-in ballots.
States need to start losing their Statehood over their so-called “elections”.
A judge shopped judge will agree with them, then it’ll go to a higher court where it may or may not still stand, then go to the 10th circuit, where may or may not stick, and then will end with the Supreme Court with a shoot the hell down
While I don’t believe a president should retaliate against a state by moving or closing military sites, in this case it makes sense for Space Command to be nearer to where the launches take place.
No doubt some Biden or Obama appointed, foreign born, district court judge will rule that the President of the United States does not get to make such decisions and instead they, a circuit court judge has presidential powers and gets to make that decision. That laughable nonsense will then be overturned by the Circuit Court.
Then the Obama/Biden district court judge will whine about it to the corporate media.
It was originally planned by the Trump administration to be in Alabama. Biden moved it to Colorado for entirely political reasons - ie Alabama is a red state and Colorado is a blue state. Trump just changed it back.
I agree that two separate issues are being conflated. Wernher von Braun’s original space development was in Alabama, I believe. There are reasons to be close to launch facilities.
However, if the Left wants to bring up voting - let them. States in the United States have a responsibility to run fair elections and not just put the Left in charge.
Was it not Colorado’s messiah The LightBringer who said “Elections have consequences ...”
I don’t know about unconstitutional, that seems to be a stretch but they might be able to argue that this type of move is usually recommended by a Base Realignment and Closure panel, after considerable study. Right now there is no BRAC nor has one been requested to the best of our knowledge. I understand wanting to move this command to Huntsville but it makes that town an even juicier nuclear target for our enemies. I believe we should disperse commands and personnel, not concentrate them.
Clinton closed down Fort Chaffee in Arkansas, his home state, even when Arkansas voted for him. He knew he was never coming back and was going to join the east coast elites.
Billions of dollars lost to the local area over the decades since he closed it.
