Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin has described antisemitism as a "norm" Jews will face for years as he called out a lack of leadership across institutions and the government.
The Co-Chief Executive of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, Alex Ryvchin, has said the hate directed at Jews in Australia and around the world has become a disturbing norm due to an absence of leadership and accountability.
Mr Ryvchin spoke to Sky News host Chris Kenny on the second anniversary of the October 7 atrocities amid outrage over pro-Hamas graffiti which appeared in Melbourne on Tuesday and a controversial court appeal to allow a pro-Palestinian protest at the Sydney Opera House to proceed.
The graffiti, which read “Glory to Hamas”, was painted across a billboard in Melbourne’s inner suburbs on the anniversary of the terror attack that killed 1,200 Israelis and saw around 250 people taken hostage.
Victorian Police confirmed they were investigating the act of vandalism, calling it “completely unacceptable” and saying there is “absolutely no place in our society for antisemitic or hate-based symbols and behaviour”.

As a jew i can say we are the only white n&^^%#@ in the world.
We are all led to believe the Holocaust was the only genocide in world history. Just look at all the movies under the subject ‘war’.
How does leadership ‘stamp out’ hate?
All it can do is muzzle expressions of it.
Hate is something of which individuals have to learn the idiocy.
In a country with a decent system of education, so much of this hate would be rejected out of hand and never emerge.

The real hate is towards Christianity. There’s been over 500 church burnings and vandalism in the past five years. I’m pretty sure there’s zero synagogues burned in the same time frame.

I said they sounded like the Australian version of the ADL that the FBI had just cut ties with.
