The federal government shutdown that began at the stroke of midnight on October 1 wasn’t an accident, a matter of miscommunication, or the result of congressional leaders getting behind on their paperwork. Both major parties went into it with eyes open, having for their own reasons spurned the negotiations that usually head off these destructive events at the last minute. It would be naive, then, to expect the shutdown to end quickly or simply.
Democrats have a fairly elaborate list of demands they want met before voting en masse to reopen the government. Republicans simply want it to reopen so that they and the Trump administration can continue to deploy their virtually unlimited power over federal policy, personnel, and spending. Democrats know their ability to interrupt appropriations with a Senate filibuster is their one and only source of leverage over national policy until the midterms, when they hope to break the GOP trifecta. Republicans know their policies as reflected in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act are relatively unpopular and are eager to cast the opposition as reckless extremists willing to damage the country to pursue their woke socialist dreams.
Both parties go into the shutdown mostly united and fully prepared to spin, spin, spin, with Democrats focused on expiring Obamacare premium subsidies and Medicaid cuts and Republicans making up fables about the trillions of dollars in health-care benefits Democrats want to give illegal immigrants. The soft underbelly of Democratic resistance is the same group of Senate Democrats who voted to avoid a shutdown back in March (three of them voted in favor of the Republican measure to keep the government open late yesterday); Republicans have to cope with swing-state House and Senate members who fear premium spikes...

I don’t recall the effects of the last one so, don’t care when it ends....
The results to the last one are the same as all of them: dems obstruct in order to get a shutdown, they work hard to make it as painful as possible and then blame it on republicans while the media tells sob stories of desperate government workers forced to feed dog food to their children. Meanwhile, nothing bad actually happens in real live, the checks all go out, the important stuff stays open, and the government workers get a fully paid vacation.
That's what I told my Wife. As long as the SS payments continue, who cares how many parks, museums, paid layoffs occure? It just shows how little the Fedgov is needed.
“As long as the SS payments continue, who cares how many parks, museums, paid layoffs occure? “
They have enough personnel to guard the parks and forests so you can’t get in.
Never happen, people aren't affected by the shutdown and don't care. The midterms are well over a year away, people have short memories.
Wow, just a little bit of bias in that statement. 😉
I’m sorry to say but Trump and RINOs will eventually cave.
They control the media... their playbook is already in motion, propaganda about kids starving, trash at Nat’l Parks, sob stories.
The longer this shutdown goes, the more these stories will resonate.
Also: “Republicans making up fables...”

as a kid, during one govt. shutdown we were fed Wolfs Tooth canned dog food, for a few meals. Wasnt bad, when some ‘chicken helper’ stuff added. Racoon flavor was the best.
I am loving the lighter traffic during shutdown. It was the same benefit during all previous shutdowns. That shows how many people work for the federal government. Federal civilians do not produce anything I need to buy. All they do is make more regulations and raise taxes on people who are actually productive.
Anything written on MSN is just Democrat BS.
Stuff that is important still works.
Kind of hard on our soldiers is my only concern.
that could be fixed with one appropriations bill
covering just the military only.
Keep the rest shut down forever and fire all the
useless Democrats we can.
“Republicans know their policies as reflected in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act are relatively unpopular” with MSN.
The Chief Executive has “unlimited power” over the Executive Branch? That sounds about right. I will admit that Congress (not just Democrats) has an oversight role. Congress can defund.
Hey, now! If the Dems are right. . . (Have they ever been right? Or told the truth? But I digress.)
Gosh, easily solved: Offer the Dims a bill of their choosing--minus any "medical" slush funds for illegals--and offer to deliver every GOP vote. . .
They'll never buy it, of course. Then the GOP says, "Hey, such a shame. Well, we asked nice. . ." and skates on to do what it pleases--running TV ads pointing all this out for the weak of mind.
If that was the case, then those people were alarmingly stupid. Beans and rice are cheaper than dog food.
A poor little old lady who lives in the neighborhood is terrified that she won’t get her social security check because of government shutdown. Of course she watches PMSNBC where they lie 24/7.
So I looked it up online and SS checks will definitely be sent by the 3rd, which is tomorrow,
SO TRUE.
