Trump plans to ask Supreme Court to toss E. Jean Carroll’s $5 million abuse and defamation verdict

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump will soon ask the Supreme Court to throw out a jury’s finding in a civil lawsuit that he sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll at a Manhattan department store in the mid-1990s and later defamed her, his lawyers said in a recent court filing.

Trump’s lawyers previewed the move as they asked the high court to extend its deadline for challenging the $5 million verdict from Sept. 10 to Nov. 11. The president “intends to seek review” of “significant issues” arising from the trial and the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals’ subsequent decisions upholding the verdict, his lawyers said.

Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, said Wednesday: “We do not believe that President Trump will be able to present any legal issues in the Carroll cases that merit review by the United States Supreme Court.”

Carroll testified at a 2023 trial that Trump turned a friendly encounter in spring 1996 into a violent attack in the dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman, a luxury retailer across the street from Trump Tower. The jury also found Trump liable for defaming Carroll when he made comments in October 2022 denying her allegation.

A three-judge appellate panel upheld the verdict last December, rejecting Trump’s claims that trial Judge Lewis A. Kaplan’s decisions spoiled the trial, including by allowing two other Trump sexual abuse accusers to testify. The women said Trump committed similar acts against them in the 1970s and in 2005. Trump denied all three women’s allegations.

In June, 2nd Circuit judges denied Trump’s petition for the full appellate court to take up the case. That left Trump with two options: accept the result and allow Carroll to collect the judgment, which he’d...

The police report and witnesses could tell you that.

Too bad there aren't any.

Tara Reade, apparently actually raped by Brandon when he was senator, never took him to court.

Carroll made up the entire Trump attack and took it before a hostile (to Trump) jury and was awarded a crazy amount of money.

Reade should have taken Brandon to court in a red state and at least would have received real justice.

You are entitled to your own opinion Mrs. Kaplan. You are not entitled to your own facts.

"The president “intends to seek review” of “significant issues” arising from the trial"

You mean like the New York State Legislature, dominated by a more than 2 to 1 RAT ratio, specifically passing a law to extend the statute of limitations just to snag Trump in E. Jeanne Carroll's fictitious suit?

As well, in the fraud case brought against him by Lucretia Borgia James, they changed the charges from misdemeanors to a felonies.

How about a simpler question - "What was the YEAR of that event?"

Nobody knows.

The article states: "Carroll testified at a 2023 trial that Trump turned a friendly encounter in spring 1996 into a violent attack in the dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman"

This is the 1st I've seen the year specified.

Hochul had the law changed to wipe out the statute of limitations...for just one year. Carroll filed the day after the law went into effect. I don't believe even a tad of Carroll's story. Neither she or her two buddies could put a date on it...and in fact had to change the story when the first date didn't work.

Carroll kept a diary but said she didn't write down bad things that happened...

She's just plain evil....like that lady with the baby voice who lied about Kavanaugh. Luckily, he had his old calendar.

E Jean Carrol thinks rape is SEXY. And thinks Anderson Cooper is “fascinating” to talk to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDifGkoqFc4

E Jean Carrol house - she is a total loony tunes

Listen to this TOTAL IDIOT - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldP8YNAPlTw

Here at the very end she says - women think rape is sexy and tells cooper that “he is fascinating” to talk too, when he IMMEDIATELY goes to a break. Cooper better watch out. If he has $ she may come after him and say he ENTICED her on camera. As Barney Fife said “she is a NUT”.

Correct - I have never seen the year mentioned either. Why, because putting a year or date down destroys here credibility.

She never provided a date to prevent Trump from having an alibi. Didn't she also make false claims against other men? There was never any evidence that the encounter happened--just her word for it.

But Biden called Trump a rapist last year during the campaign.

The NY legislature changed the law to allow her to sue Trump for an act that she said happened years before and the statute of limitations had long passed. I think that is one of the arguments that the court will need to consider.
