Officials say they need the land to meet state-mandated affordable housing targets..
In a case drawing national attention, Cranbury Township is moving forward with its plans to seize part of a historic 175-year-old family farm to build affordable housing, despite fierce push-back and an active lawsuit.
The Middlesex County township recently hired a company to appraise 12 acres of the Henry family farm, according to NJ.com, which is the first step toward possibly condemning the land through eminent domain. Local officials have maintained that they need the land to meet state-mandated affordable housing targets.
The Henry family — which has held the farm since 1850 — argue it’s still an active operation and not suited for development. Farm owner Andy Henry told NJ Spotlight News that he was both surprised and disappointed by the township’s decision to move forward with an appraisal, instead of trying to work out an agreement.
Cranbury’s efforts to seize the farm and redevelop the land for affordable house have garnered broad opposition across the political spectrum. The Trump administration has even gotten involved, launching an investigation into potential violations of farmland protection laws.

“Local officials have maintained that they need the land to meet state-mandated affordable housing targets.”
Damn the torpedos.
This is how Civil Wars start.
Communists in every blue state are watching this situation VERY closely. If they win, it will unleash a tsunami of seizures.
Sounds like Cranbury is looking for a place to store it’s illegal alien garbage.
Every “official” should lose their homes, their children,
and then their FREEDOM after a Trial or Tribunal.
UN Agenda 21 , 2030 , Great Reset, ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
There is no such thing as ‘Affordable Housing’.
All housing is affordable by someone.
If they make cheap houses, they will get cheap house that will fall apart under the tenants who will not care nor maintain them.
The city will manufacture then inherit a ghetto................
It already happened in several municipalities throughout the country but especially in the northeast. The politicians in this town are either too corrupt or too ignorant to know that.
Should lose more than their homes
How about the "local officials" and all the other damned politicians and bureaucrats involved in the "state mandate" give up THEIR land?
Yup. Seize THEIR land and homes.
But the elitists never want to make the *sacrifices*. They demand others do it.
Government housing / taxpayer funded for illegal aliens / jihad invaders
Bingo. I live in the worst (or one of the worst) state for this. They are building all this “affordable housing” crap everywhere, and they have used every smidgen of “law” available to it.
I despise Leftism and those who advocate for it, and all this “affordable housing” BS is high on their list of things to inflict on citizens.
Seems like a good place to begin the ending of the abuse of government eminent domain for “public use”, and the ending of the property tax scam. We either have private land ownership or we don’t. Let us know which so we can respond accordingly.
Trump should consider intervention by US Marshals and withholding fed funds
A freaking bureaucratic mandated cluster-f.
Even if there is a “need” for “affordable” housing, they can’t find some existing crapola apartments to raze and build newer high-rises on the sites? Taking farmland out of production is a problem country-wide.
If they need more “affordable” housing wouldn’t it be more cost effective to leave the farm as is and just have the state (who is doing the mandating!) provide funding to supplement rents for existing housing?
High rises / section 8 like Cabrini Green full of drug dealers, pimps, and ..
The downfall of this Great Republic began when we abandoned the practice of Tar and Feathers.
