Good question. You’d be surprised. Lots of people in NYC carry weapons. Box cutters and razors and the like so not very useful in a situation like this.

Yes. As Paul Mauro (ex cop) said the police don’t make a lot of money and this officer sadly took extra work to provide for the baby on the way as wife is pregnant. Also had two young sons.

My only point was that I assume he knew he would kill himself but wanted to make sure no one else did until he murdered who he wanted to murder.
Manhattan isn’t Tulsa. Per capita CCW likely nil in Manhattan. If I had been there unarmed, I would have spirited my loved ones and myself away asap. That’s job #1.

Did Phil Ochs sing Love Me, I’m A Liberal when you saw him in concert? His introductory comment about the "shadiness" of liberals was terrific, but I've never known whether his remarks were actually part of the song's lyrics. This was the Chessmate in Detroit, where maybe 150 people were close enough to see and hear the artists. In the little version of the “green room” behind the kitchen, Joni Mitchell composed Big Yellow Taxi while waiting between sets. Bob Dylan went to the club to relax after his acoustic concerts where I saw him perform.
