New York will soon require most new buildings to be fully electric, following a vote by the state Building Code Council, according to the Times Union. Beginning January 2026, gas and oil systems will be banned in newly constructed homes and low-rise buildings, with broader mandates kicking in by 2029. Supporters say the move helps cut emissions and long-term costs, but critics argue it burdens residents and stresses an already strained power grid. The law includes exceptions for buildings with permits filed before year’s end and does not apply to renovations. New York’s building sector is the state’s largest emissions source. While advocates insist electrification is efficient and manageable, energy experts warn of rising demand and possible blackouts.
Manmade climate change is a fraud.
The State of New York thinks it can get hydropower electricity from Canada.
The Canadians might have Rev. Gore-based plans of their own that do not include electricity exports to the US.
Or the legislators own stock in Generac.
IOW the entire Northeast can look forward to daily blackouts. It’s happened before. I still recall one in 1965...millions of people without power for almost a day.
Electricity rates on Long Island are very high.
They must think there’s an electricity tree out by the money tree.
Retarded politicians are now designing buildings. You better wear a construction helmet when walking around downtown.
The ENTIRE STATE?
Where they going to get all this electricity from?
Stick a fork on all the blue states. We all know that they are doomed, and we can hopefully restore civilization to the remnants after the left does their normal and expected job of turning gold into turds.
This is happening all over America. Washington State has made it impossible to buy a gas furnace or appliances. This crap must stop.
I remember new housing developments in the 1970’s that went all electric. It was sold as being so clean and efficient.
Now, try paying to heat your house with an electric furnace during a North Dakota winter. Gas was eventually piped in to the neighborhoods.
They think they can change the weather.
It gets cold in NY. Heat pumps are efficient above 45 degrees. Below 25 they must be augmented. Electric resistance coils. Will spin your electric meter like a top. Super insulated houses are sick buildings. Commercial low-rise will need triple vestibule access.
Let the Yankee’s freeze....... in the dark
“Beginning January 2026, gas and oil systems will be banned in newly constructed homes and low-rise buildings”
Beginning February 2026, massive shortage of housing and hundreds of thousands of homeless living in the streets ...
New York will need nucs......ASAP
1) AI is the future!!
2) AI requires huge amounts of electricity!!
3) We don’t have enough electricity to power our AI future!!
4) Let’s force every building in the state to run on only electricity!!
Based on my estimates, full adoption of EVs add about 20% of load to the grid, and often in ways that the grid cannot handle, like everyone plugging in at the end of Thanksgiving weekend. That’s bad enough, given that no one is serious about adding grid capacity.
Now, this scheme, which by default includes stoves and water heaters, along with space heating, will likely result in a doubling of load (I haven’t done the math yet). So what’s going to give - blackouts during blizzards in NYC, power lines tripping off due to overloads, people forced into heated shelters on a regular basis, almost certainly people freezing to death in their homes (as is now happening in the UK, by the way).
The key takeaway from my posting, something VERY MANY, perhaps most, conservatives need to comprehend is that the Leftists driving these policies are VERY SMART people and they have VERY SMART experts telling them the above - they know what they are doing. They are NOT dumb. And once that is understood by our side, then we’ll finally be about to kick that bunch out of politics, once and for all, as it will mean that conservatives will finally understand that they MUST vote for less-than-perfect Republicans over Democrats, or God help this country.
