On Thursday’s broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said that the government grocery store plan from New York City mayoral candidate Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani (D) is “a new and fresh plan for New York City. But it’s been tried in other cities around the country and has had some real successes.”
Warren stated that Mamdani “said, we’ve got a problem with entire food deserts where people can’t get access to grocery stores. He said, I’d like to take a look at whether or not we can have some kind of — like we do on military bases — you have some kind of support from the city government that says, we’re going to get some food, grocery stores in areas that, right now, are food deserts. And by the way, it’s a new and fresh plan for New York City. But it’s been tried in other cities around the country and has had some real successes.”
Warren continued, “So, what I hear Mamdani say is, I want to try things to make it work for working families. And you know what? This is how democracy works. A lot of people in New York City said, that sounds good to me, I’d rather try that than any of the other alternatives available to me, I support that.”

Oh heck yes. That way the government can profit from as well as tax the citizen. It’s like using tax or bond revenue to build the parking lot then making the citizenry pay exorbitant parking fees. Who needs competition?

Once the “citizens” start to shoplift all the goods, they will be armed guards and shooting looters. Communism only works out of the barrel of a gun.

True, but due to political correctness, liberals are not allowed to talk about what causes food deserts.
The capitalistic system applied to the food distribution chain, from the producers, to the processors, to the transportation, to the warehousing of the wholesalers, to the retail outlets, has assured the most uniform and least expensive means of getting plentiful good to high quality foodstuffs to the ultimate consumer, has proved over and over that this is the most efficient, economical and surest means yet developed for consumers who do not or cannot grow their own foodstuffs.
Long lines and scarcity are assured for government-run food distribution centers. Just go to many of the “food banks” run by churches and other charities. Long lines and deliberately limited quantioties to each recipient, until they run out.
The only way to make the concept “work”, is for taxpayers to subsidize wages and prices for a business model that loses massive amounts of money by design. Warren loves her some theft.
