Summary
HUNT, Texas, July 6 (Reuters) - The death toll from catastrophic floods in Texas reached at least 67 on Sunday, including 21 children, as the search for girls missing from a summer camp entered a third day.
Larry Leitha, the Kerr County Sheriff in Texas Hill Country, the epicenter of the flooding, said the death toll in Kerr County had reached 59, including the 21 children.
Leitha said 11 girls and a counselor remained missing from a summer camp near the Guadalupe River, which broke its banks after torrential rain fell in the central Texas area on Friday, the U.S. Independence Day holiday.
A Travis County official said four people had died from the flooding there, with 13 unaccounted for, and officials reported another death in Kendall County. The Burnet County Sheriff's office reported two fatalities. A woman was found dead in her submerged car in the city of San Angelo in Tom Green County, the police chief said.
Leitha said there were 18 adults and four children still pending identification in Kerr County. He did not say if those 22 individuals were included in the death count of 59.
Officials said on Saturday that more than 850 people had been rescued, including some clinging to trees, after a sudden storm dumped up to 15 inches (38 cm) of rain across the region, about 85 miles (140 km) northwest of San Antonio. It was unclear exactly how many people in the area were still missing.
"Everyone in the community is hurting," Leitha told reporters.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency was activated on Sunday and is deploying resources to first responders in Texas after...

Heartbreaking! Prayers are greatly needed and most appreciated for the good people of the great state of Texas!
May the Holy One of Israel comfort all those who mourn and give them hope and rest in the promise of the resurrection of the dead to life.
Yes, absolutely heart wrenching. My prayers are for those suffering loss, especially the families who lost their babies at the summer camp.
I read an interesting comment on another site yesterday and it referred to ongoing weather modification projects wondering if they could be causing these unusual and deadly outbursts. Can anyone on FR speak about weather modification programs and their affect what we see on the ground???
Weather happens, acts of god happen, then people look around trying to find someone something to blame...
Let's ask Grok about HAARP and weather modification.
Heartbreaking
Some are already blaming Trump, due to allegations that he was cutting back the national weather service forecasting process, so that there were not enough warnings to people in time for them to evacuate.
So it’s the fault of Trump and Elon Musk, according to some of the liberals.
And, they likely won’t find them all. You see the videos of the searchers in boats going up and down the river last night scanning the banks with lights. This has turned into a recovery operation. Sure, they are on the lookout for anyone who is alive, but they are looking for coyotes and other predators in the wood piles on the banks. There is no better cadaver dog than a coyote. It’s all very sad.
On of the problems is...the weather reports have become...in some case....a little dramatic...and ar starting to be ignored.
But there is absolutely no excuse for the adults in this camp using a bit of common sense and check into it. That all the adults were asleep is ridiculous.
“Some are already blaming Trump, due to allegations that he was cutting back the national weather service forecasting process”
We knew it would be Trump’s fault some way, somehow, right?
It seems that the most serious public warnings were very early morning, practically the middle of the night. If there’s a paucity of cell towers in some of those areas, it makes sense that warnings weren’t received. Tragedies like this might make providers — maybe working with government to some degree — to beef up their systems so there are fewer “no service” areas.
Figures. They'll blame Trump for the Long Beach Earthquake.
To be sure, this was an awful tragedy. But, as a native Texan who was born here, I have a hard time with people trying to place blame on governmental entities. Texans don't look to the government to wipe our collective butts. We make it a point to look out for ourselves. We only look to the government as a last resort. And, lifelong Texans know that when it storms in the hill country, there likely will be some dangerous flooding. So, we don't put ourselves in danger by being in a flood zone of a hill country river or stream when there are thunderstorms in the area. Central Texas is a big mostly rural area, with spotty cell service and emergency personnel stretched thin.
If you moved to Texas from a place where you're used to getting your butt wiped by the government on a regular basis, then you came to the wrong place. I was born in the Houston area, but moved out to rural east Texas forty-five years ago. When the local sheriffs deputy came out to see who was renovating the old farmhouse, one thing he said was: "I hope you keep a gun handy, because we can't protect you out here."
Welcome to Texas.
GROC said I wasn’t authorized to use the site. Can you provide a summary?
It is indeed extremely tragic and I do appreciate the media covering the event. However, I pray the media will also spend as much energy and time as they have and will here with this tragedy on the missing children related to Jeffrey Epstein and his “customers” or the hundreds of thousands of missing children Biden, Harris, and Mayorkas allowed across our border with Mexico.
The media agenda is absolutely disgusting!!
I imagine many of those missing will not be found for a long time. They are likely wrapped up in debris or buried in the mud.
I can only imagine how the parents are feeling. The powerlessness of the situation will likely take a toll on them as well.
They continue to be in my prayers. I pray for those searching as well. Their discoveries will haunt them for years. I do not envy their task.
Spot on.
Total nonssense.
