The American dream is slipping away.
Most US citizens no longer enjoy “a minimal quality of life” due to skyrocketing costs, a depressing new study has uncovered.
Ludwig Institute for Shared Economic Prosperity conducted research into the economic well-being of the country’s residents, defining “minimal quality of life” as the ability to pay for a “basket of American dream essentials”: housing, food, transportation, clothing, medical costs and basic leisure expenses.
The leisure expenses included access to cable TV and streaming services, as well as the ability to pay for six movie tickets and two baseball tickets per year.

Pretty much anyplace that water can run downhill can be "problematic" if there's a big rain and that location is close enough to the Gulf coast there's lots of water around to make those storms happen naturally.
I had some minor part in the (Colorado) Big Thompson flood recovery operations back in '76 and still get chills driving through any of those mountain canyons...especially when the rain starts. Only two things you can do if one of those floods start: Climb as fast and far as you can and keep praying.

Trip was on River at four corner junction. Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado

We rafted, camped overnight lots of hiking, we spent 3 nights at a beautiful canyon bottom… wild ponies, fruit, great hiking
One night there was a big storm. Water running under our tents. Only lasted N hour but it was fierce

My husbands other niece, sister of the one who has gone TDS crazy, lives in the Hill Country of Texas. She is ok because their house is higher up. She is very conservative.

My youngest daughter works at a Winco grocery store. A couple of weeks ago she said a woman bought boco lbs of Hamburger on her EBT card to MAKE DOG FOOD OUT OF. It is all my daughter can do to keep her mouth shut.
She is counting the days until she retires in April 2026.
